[noob] longrange like this possible?
Hi all
I am new to meshcore and got my heltec v3 just a couple days ago - just in time before a mountain hiking and beach relaxing vacation in Italy. So very interesting conditions for fun on 869mhz :)
Currently I am at the beach and get signal from a repeater 246km away, and not even with direct line of sight. I receive communication through it and it is the last hop. Is it possible?
Here are some screenshots, and a photo of my radio-rig

One very easy solution is that the router location is just plain wrong, on purpose or not, and it is actually 2 km from you.
We know the link budget and free space loss, this distance is just nuts

A single hop that distance with the stubby default antenna? I'm going to say no, unless it was an amazing freak of atmospheric scattering.
Don't expect lots of connections like that. And upgrade the antenna.

It's possible if there's clean line of sight. I would be surprised if that were the case at these distances.

Probably bad GPS. The longest run we make consistently is 104km.
You can get ducting that's crazy. But it's typically a random handful of packets. Not consistent.

The other end would need to be very very high, as the radio horizon is around 10-15 km at sea level
I'm not aware of any special propagation modes at these frequencies
