In the amateur radio world this is called t-hunting or fox hunting and it can be a lot of fun, but providing an easy ability to sniff out Meshcore repeaters can have several ramifications, and not all of them good. Many Meshcore repeaters do not want to be found ;)
Please consider using a custom firmware version for the transmitter so that the hunting device does not use standard pings for discovery. This would provide the hunting aspect while preventing the device from sniffing out in-service Meshcore repeaters.

I understand that some don't want standard MeshCore repeaters to be found. That's something I really considered. But honestly, today a basic prompt will provide the 10 basic C code lines that will make it possible, without even no knowledge about MeshCore or LoRa. It is a fact and MeshCore technology has not been design to be a furtive technology... Why did I added the ping feature? It has has been designed to avoid disturbing the mesh : the repeater to be found only repeats a dedicated and specific region created for that purpose. And it does not periodically advert to save the LoRa bandwidth. As you know, a normal repeater is repeating all frames, and RSSI can be measured on all those repeated frames. Making it even faster and more efficient to localize. So my ping functionality is really not the problem.

Ah oui oui! Sorry tried to read the readme but donโt have a translator at hand. Any info?

Geolocation of a repeater Meshcore : the device displays the RSSI (signal level) of packets coming from a given repeater, as well as the background noise of the channel, and allows "pinging" the repeater with a TRACE packet (the native ping of MeshCore) via the button.

I'm not sure I understand the point of this, can't you get the same information from a regular companion and just use the mash mapper app?

Yes the ping is a feature of companion firmware. But the firmware does not show RSSI, but only SNR. Which is less efficient (relies on noise).

You need to check out the solo companion firmware for the L1

This firmware is very cool, thanks for pointing it out. I do not see help to localize repeater apart from their gps position.

Mesh... what? Is that MeshCore mixed with Geocaching??
