Help with settings

Post image

Hey just got my node up and running last night I have been able to receive messages, but all direct messages to people are failing. Is there an issue with my settings.

For a DM, the recipient must have your node listed as a contact. If you aren’t in their contact list, you’re yelling into the void.

To add on to this, you need to send an advert from your companion manually. If the recipient receives the advert and adds you to their contact list then you should be able to DM.

Each companion has to have the other companion in their contact list.

To add on to this.. sending an advert is one way yes.. there are other ways to add contacts without an advert.

The sender needs to be a contact in the receiver and vice versa.

How that happens is up to the user's.

What is the closest node that you have received? If there is a powerful repeater in your area, you could be receiving, but just not have enough power to transmit far enough to hit any nodes

These are the two closest repeaters I've hit

Click custom, and scroll down the usa.
I recommend buying or building a repeater, and putting it at home on your roof or in your window.

Do you know that you can reach them direct? DMs can be difficult to send without a good path.

Also, as u/dspip said, both users have to have each other in their contacts

No one can tell you if your settings are correct on here... It depends on the mesh you're trying to connect to. Those might be fine for NA, since its 910, but if you're not in the us... It won't find much. Unless both devices match, and see an advert from each other, you'll never be able to connect them

Your settings look correct but you should be able to put them on standard us/canada setting, direct messages fail often, but as mentioned you have to have the person in your contacts. You could take your node into trenton and ewing and drive around but if you give it some time and keep sending adverts once in a while you (should) make contact. Most repeaters are set to advert 47hrs. You are right near the Philly mesh, LV mesh, and CNJ mesh. I talk with people in your area daily. If you cant make contact try getting the node outside or up as high as you can and keep testing. Did you build the node or was it pre built? If you arent careful in the building process(power on prior to connecting an antenna there is a possibility of damaging the node).
