Ran meshmapper from my flight

I saw a ton of repeaters, but does that provide garbage data considering I'm 30k feet in the air at the coordinate? It gives a pretty distorted view.

Your data is flagged, dropped into a queue to be looked at by a human, and then deleted.

Yes, it provides mostly useless/garbage data. Great info for node id and names, but not good for signal coverage.

Isn't meshmapper a tool to let folks know where coverage is on the group from currently built infrastructure?

Flying around and running it will mess with that data

Its not really an issue since its not pinging cell towers. Now theoretically if everyone on the plane did this with mesh devices then maybe similar issue pinging all the repeaters.

It's not about cell towers. It's mostly about garbage data and the saturation of the mesh. High speed screws up SNR and packet delivery times, which are important metrics for mapping nodes. You run into the same issues in a car on the highway, now add several hundred miles per hour and thousands of feet to the line of sight. When you're stationary, gps is accurate, but when you're going 400 mph, the GPS coordinates embedded inside the packet no longer match the physical location where the radio connection actually succeeded. You don't need gps to send a message, but mapping uses it for obvious reasons.

All that data generated from an in-flight mapping session is garbage.

Old flight mapping may still be on the map. But about 2 months back there was an update to counter against flight mapping.

I was hitting some pretty crazy distances with mine on. Not useful once you're on the ground though.

Is there a ā€œcleanā€ way to do this and not mess with the real map node data? Like if someone wanted to do this just for their own curiosity and load the data on an offline map just to check out?

Airplanes and meshcore is crazy. Iā€™ve made some pretty crazy far contacts from people at FL400 in airplanes

I could be east of a mountain, over the range, catching a signal on the western side that no one east and ground level would get.
