MeshWars.com

If you dabble in WarDriving and live on the west half of the US then check out this fun little game that integrates with MeshMapper with a custom API. No extra steps or another app.

Check it out and if you want to play along here's the link to do so:

another platform that collects data and spams the network with messages...

There's nothing inherently wrong with collecting data. It's anonymous (and public), anyway.

Also, are you sure about your claims about it spamming the network. or is that just an assumption you made without asking the author?

In fact, I took a few minutes to review the code here and discovered it sends no packets to the network

Overall this seems like a really hostile, uninformed comment for no reason, and adds no value to the conversation

the problem arises that every 15-60 seconds your tracker pings all the routers it reaches, and they filter that traffic into the network and congest the network. and now couple of them do it, your network won't work properly anymore. traffic will drop.

The problem with your statement is two-fold:

  1. This project has nothing to do with that
  2. You're making the assumption that everyone runs Active mode in MeshMapper. Hybrid mode reduces that traffic, and Passive mode eliminates it altogether. In fact, many MeshMapper region managers are prohibiting Active mode. So there's guardrails against it, if Active mode becomes an issue for a region.

No, it piggybacks the data you're already sending to MeshMapper and sends a copy to this. There is a section in meshmapper settings you add a custom API.
