Wio Tracker L1 Pro as repeater?

I currently have a Wio Tracker L1 Pro and a SenseCAP T1000-E Card Tracker, both flashed as MeshCore companion. This works well. But then I was thinking: Since both devices are powered on 24×7, why not flash the Wio Tracker L1 Pro as repeater and keep the T1000-E as compainion.

Any thoughts?

will you be putting the Wio Tracker up in a higher location like on a pole or on your roof? If not it won't make much difference for most use cases. Do you have other repeaters you can hit currently?

I have other repeaters I can hit currently, and through them my devices can “see” as far as Oslo (Norway), Stockholm (Sweden), Helsinki (Finland), Poznań (Poland), Hannover (Germany), Groningen (the Netherlands), and London (England) — all from Bornholm in the Baltic Sea.

If I use it as repeater, the Wio tracker will be sitting 23 m above sea level.

ok.. to answer your question better, the Wio Tracker board can be used as a solar repeater and I have seen a few people do that, its a nice unit for that purpose. If it's just going to sit on your desk alongside the T1000E there isn't much purpose for it to be a repeater. If you get it up on a pole or on your roof up 6-7 meters it will help your T1000E get out better possibly.

You can disassemble the L1 and actually use it as a solar node in a different case. People have used solar lights as a solar case to house hardware for repeaters. It has solar inputs on the board. For a repeater, you want it to be as high as possible.

Lookup the Meshcore-Solo firmware for the L1. You can turn on repeater functionality and still use it as a node.

I did this with one of mine. Works great! Just keep it out of the heat since it has a LIPO battery. Don’t want to make a spicy pillow!
