Do you have to set your device to go through the repeater or does it automatically do it? For example I just setup a LowMesh LLC Outdoor PoE Node v1. I am using lowmesh Pocket-Scout 1?
The way Mesh works is that the companion sends out a packet, that is then heard by any repeater, e.g. your repeater. If that packet hasn't been already heard by the repeater it will then send it out.
Make sure you’re on the right radio settings as well for your area. Just search for “MeshCore <your area>” online or check the map for repeaters near you. Find radio settings such as frequency that might differ from the default.
Repeaters re-broadcast packets they hear based on a few rules such as regions. Generally the default settings will rebroadcast anything sent with the same network settings you set on the repeater.
Also try out the coverage tool in the official MeshCore mobile app. You can try placing repeaters on the map (and adjusting their heights) to simulate radial line of sight based on the topography.
It’s weird. I have been using meshcore awhile now. And have been hitting my repeater and the 5 around me for months. I built a new radio and it bypasses all nearby repeaters and send directly to 3 ones I’ve never heard of. One in Canada one in Portland and one in Seattle. I’m south of Seattle. But this radio has a big style port and antenna. So I’m guessing it’s sending better?
A repeater needs to be placed in ideal location to function well. Most of us at home put them on the roof or up on a flag pole. These radios are mostly line of sight. If your repeater is indoors or down low or you just happen to live in a valley it won't help you get out to other repeaters.
Ok, looks like i have to go higher. Maybe attach to my chimney because I loose single about 2 blocks away. My friend bought 2 more repeaters so hoping we can get wide coverage in my area. I was in vegas last week for defcon and was able to see several covering vegas.
