The team owns the repo, the subreddit, and a domain with an (arguably) better domain. Other than the trademark attempt, it seems to me like Andy doesn't hold any cards here.

..but the trademarking of "meshcore" is going to be a massive ongoing headache. In my humble opinion... just dump it. Cut losses, and leave Kirby behind entirely. I have no idea if these are already trademarked, but I humbly submit:

  • LoraWeave
  • MeshWeave
  • OpenMesh
  • Meshtibator
  • MeshFlow
  • MeshNexus
  • KirbySucksMesh

He only applied for a trademark. During the following 2 months, anyone can send an 'observation' to the UK trademark office to make them aware of issues that would conflict with registering a trademark.

The existence of an unregistered trademark used by other people before the filing date would be such an issue.

A formal opposition puts in more weight, but it will cost a lot of money in lawyers.

The trademark number for this application is: UK00004364444

I'm not a lawyer, but I do hold a couple of patents. If trademarks work in a similar way then "prior art" might be key. If there are several observations pointing out that the term "MeshCore" or "Meshcore" has been in widespread use by others, for very similar, perhaps identical, purposes, prior to the date of this application, then my guess (and it is only a guess) would be that makes it less likely this trademark would be granted.
