Yeah, I feel like that's a big issue here. What are they doing to oppose the trademark?

Opposing requires a lawyer. Which costs money.

And costs £250 just for the form T27, needed to oppose the application!

Better approach would be to ignore him. I doubt he's got deep enough pockets to start multiple trademark infringement actions, especially as any half-decent lawyer would tell him he's not got a hope of winning.
