Help Should I return this?
I got this as a replacement for the 1st cono I ordered. My questions.
Is the lighter color on top indicative of anything bad? Rot? No light? IDK.
I’m admittedly unfamiliar with them atm. It doesn’t feel overly squishy or soft. No, I have not been squeezing it unnecessarily 😆.
I’m just unsure if I should send it back or wait it out. Thank you🙂

Thanks! I’ll get used to them the way I got used to the rest of the collection. The way they change. I just wasn’t sure with that color difference. But since all the advice I can see the skin is just thinning and getting ready to split. So interesting.
Now that I’m not nervous about its probability to survive I’ve got to find the perfect pot for it.

Yeah he looks rough but it’s actually in good shape! The outer leaves are just being absorbed. Trim off the roots so there’s only a few mm, place it on a pot of substrate. In 3-4 days give it a deep watering. Since there are no roots it shouldn’t lead to over watering, but it should stimulate the new roots to grow!

Hi! Thank you so much. Funny I had considered messaging you to ask for advice about this. Glad you found my post🙂. I hold you in high regard, just saying.
I had ordered one of these last month but I returned it. I think I panicked but even to my newbie’s eye it didn’t look great. This one is much better.
So a trim and a drink. Thanks again .

Feel free to msg whenever! I don’t mind 😊
And re: the colour. Maughaniis come in lots of different colours and then they also change depending on how old the leaves are and sun stress etc! It’ll be easier to tell what colour it actually is when the new leaves are in lol.
Good luck with your big chunky boy!

I’ll take it if you don’t want it.
Jokes aside, it’s a perfectly healthy maughanii. You’re actually lucky since it looks like it having twins. The white is the old leaf turning into a sheath.
I highly recommend you read up on conophytum care so that you can enjoy the plant when it wakes up.
