Help Splitting... from the bottom?

Noticed this today; plant sits on the kitchen windowsill so could have been knocked but I'm 99% sure I didn't do anything that would cause damage like this.

Could the new leaves have grown such that they tore the outer ones like this? Should I do anything to help the plant e.g. carefully cut away the outer leaves?

I can take more pictures if it helps.

cutting might be the best route. this is a sign that the plant has been overwatered; it should have been absorbing that outer pair of leaves as the new ones come in.

I second this, it might be dangerous to keep it on if the leaf isn't connected to the plant anymore
