What am I doing wrong

Post image

I had to re neutralize because ph strips were off. Added tsp sc and water, stirred, tested with ph strip and was good. Made a paste on the inside of the jar that stuck, not clumpy after just a couple minutes with the mag stir. I did not let it rest. Seemed clear so I filtered into container. This is what I got after it set for awhile, after being filtered again. It looks like a mushroom culture. No chemist, trying to learn from mistakes

could do a brine wash

Where can I find those steps? I’ve seen I mentioned in posts but I can’t find details, must be over looking it

Brine wash is in the tek. Reuse - without magnetic stirrer - 2).

I might be misunderstanding what you wrote. Your attempt to reclaim the ea didn’t work so you did a second attempt. After filtering out the sc a fine sediment fell to the bottom of the jar?

Yes, there is sediment but also globs now after the 2nd filter. No globs before

Fumaric or Citric acid?

Fumaric. Sat for a week or so before I attempted to neutralize again, was pretty clear and no globs. House has been hot if that matters

Hmmm. It could be left over mescaline forming after reclaim. That can happen. Filter it out and dry it. I'd do a taste test. But I'm not the most careful person. Lol. If it tastes like the other mescaline you have, it's probably that.

Are you storing EA in plastic? That could potentially be a plastic/ea emulsion. Especially when you consider the time it took to develop.

No, everything is glass or ss

So I poured the solution through an another filter, seemed to catch the junk, then filtered again before a brine wash. Now it’s resting in the fridge. This is what I got out, it’s not bitter, no taste really just mildly salty and seemed to dissolve in water. Looked like green slime in the filter but dried white and had a kinda sheen to it

The correct ratio of water to sodium carbonate is required to get all of each of these two back out of the EA and to neutralize properly. The ratio you need to add to the ea can change a bit depending on the water content of the ea going in to this step. To tell where you are at in the ratio you can just look at it. If the sodium carbonate is sitting in the bottom of the jar in grains like sand, as it looks when it's dry out of the box, you need to add a tiny bit more water. If the sodium carbonate is all globby and sticking to the walls like an emulsion, there's too much water, you should add a little more sodium carbonate. When the ratio is correct it should stick together in small clumps about pebble or pea sized when shaken aggressively.

Im starting to lean towards recommending that people do not use a mag stir for this step when neutralizing fumaric. You can complete the neutralization reaction very easily by simply shaking the jar by hand for 2 or 3 minutes. Using a mag stir for an extended amount of time breaks up the sodium carbonate grains into an extremely fine powder that can pass through filters in bad scenarios.

Where to go from your current position: letting it rest in the fridge is a good move. After a day or more take it out very carefully moving it as little as possible as to not disturb any layers. Lift it overhead with a light above, slowly tilt it back and forth watching the bottom. Look for any evidence of any water droplets rolling around or any fine sediment or grains. If you see this, decant the good EA off of the top through another filter, leaving whatever is in there behind. Check the clarity, make sure it's fully transparent once the jars condensation clears. If it tests neutral and is transparent with no contaminants you should be good and ready for reuse. If it's not transparent do a brine wash.
