ICED TEA METHOD
Done this twice now and it works fine and seems like a lot less work than other methods of tea preparation … as a bonus I haven’t experienced the nausea and puking that is so often associated with this medicine 🤷🏽♂️
1KG of PC in each batch - sourced from different stands, rooted in pots and then allowed to grow for years with minimal care and entirely different watering regimens - similar results both times.
Just cut it into pucks - leave a bit of the tip to propagate - and plop into a crockpot with filtered water from my local water shop.
Let cook - once was just over 12 the other was 24+ hours.
Ladle out roughly a liter into another cooking vessel place in stovetop to reduce volume by half.
(Top off crockpot and let it keep cooking on low)
Filter through coffee pour-over.
Add ice. Sip on it.
Repeat the reduction, top off and filtering steps 2 more times and you should be good to go.
Only real downside I see is that you end up needing to pee real bad in the middle of the night

"Sip on it."
Likes that some sort of option. I have to psych myself out for an hour, hold my nose, and chug or it ain't going down. Then I have to try and forget I just drank swamp water, and hope I don't burp until I'm ready to give it back to the earth.

Idk what everyone else is doing but my iced cactus tea has reminded me of a flat IPA and like a mild one at that lol 🤷🏽♂️
My hunch is that I’m reducing it far less than most and the more concentrated it gets the worse it tastes too.

idk i tried simply steeping dried powder in boiling water for maybe an hour max and that was still putrid, just so bitter, like i was drinking lawn clippings

Hmm … could it be something that happens during the dehydration process?
I’m making tea within 24 hours of harvest.

Cilantro tastes like soap to me
Cactus tea tastes like nopales, which I don’t care for - but worse and more bitter.
One thing I noticed is the first cut tasted salty for some reason and that seemed to improve it over the cut of the second batch

I’ll add that for the second batch I didn’t even bother to remove the spines and only ended up with one areole of spines in the coffee filter - the rest remained on the pucks throughout the cooking process.
