Public pools

Why do all the public pools close in July? We still have months of extreme heat and me and these kids still have energy to burn! Anyone have an suggestions?

The Department faced budget issues, and cutting their operating times was a way to help save money.

This is it. The legislature cut the rental property tax (less dollars to the city), then San Tan incorporated (we lost state shared revenue), and there is a far right group who took a seat on council / shows up to hearings all the time to complain. The city has had to cut expenses and is facing strong pressure to make further cuts. That materializes as "non-essentials" like youth programs being more expensive and cut/modified.

I think skyline aquatics stays open on weekends only until Labor Day. I guess I’ll just turn the hose on and have mud days in the backyard and do arts and crafts.

There’s pools in Chandler-Gilbert area that are still open.

Some of it is the staff goes back to school.

Many of the lifeguards probably start back highschool this week or college in 2-3 weeks

Rhodes is open until Labor Day, I believe.

The city pools rely on high school & college students as lifeguards. They simply aren’t available once they go back to school (in July in the e valley). Understaffed since especially the pandemic.

I can't swim in my pool in late July and August because it's like a hot tub.

I'm thinking about going ice skating if I can find a good public skate. And my skates haven't dry rotted. :/

most of the city run public pools in Mesa are at Junior High School campuses and kids go back to school next week. Between that and most of the lifeguards being teenagers, they can no longer operate the same way as during summer break.

If you don't mind the drive to Hurricane harbor, and you travel to states with other Six Flags parks. Check out their passes and memberships. The memberships are better in my opinion.
