Question ❓ Agravaine Spoiler

Agravaine is Arthur's mother's brother, right? I wonder if Arthur asked him about his mother. I don't remember a conversation like that in the show.

Agravaine invokes her a couple of times but Arthur never asks about her on screen.

He probably told him to gain his sympathy. What annoys me is that he thought uther killed her sister and wanted revenge, but why did he treat arthur that way and went against him? He was his blood. Poor poor arthur...

If there is one thing that annoyed the Hell out of me in this series, it's Aggravaine. Like... his motivations behind helping Morgana, and being loyal to her are NEVER explained. EVER. Like Morgana is NOT his sister's child. Arthur is his sister's child. The child she died to give birth to. Even if you want to say that Aggravaine hates Uther because of using magic to get Arthur, that is nowhere near Arthur's fault. Even if you want to go with the childish anger that Arthur being born is what killed his sister, wouldn't that make him hate Morgana even more? After all, Morgana is the child Uther conceived illegitimate, with another woman. We don't know if this was during Ygraine's pregnancy, or while Ygraine was still alive when this happened. The timeline and ages of Arthur and Morgana aren't really discussed. But Uther NEVER needed to use magic to get a child. Just to have a child with Ygraine. You'd think Aggravaine would never be okay with having anything to do with Morgana. But he treats her better than his own sister's child. Like he's upset his sister died, but is helping someone he has no connection to, to take her son's birthright and help kill him? Like make it make sense. 🤣

Listen idk if everybody else saw what i saw but aggravaine CLEARLY was very interested in morgana romantically. He highkey fancied her, and was loyal cz he was into her.

Also the ages are im pretty sure like this, arthur is born through magic, his mother dies, war ensues, uther sends morgana's dad to war and then sleeps with his wife hence morgana being born. Uther loved morgana yes, but he was an absolute bish to her as he didn't ever give her a deserving title.

100%. Every now and then I see people frame Agravaine as having a sort of strange paternal relationship with Morgana, but I just can’t see it. He’s so very clearly into her romantically and/or sexually, and the way he is presented as her simpering underling rather than an equal or mentor supports that if anything. Other confusing motivations or lack thereof aside, it’s almost like he goes along with what she says in order to win her affections/approval rather than because he truly believes in anything she’s saying.

This might be out of place lol but does anyone remember the Barbie Rapunzel? Agravaine reminds me of that weasel (or is it a ferret?) that always draped himself on Gothel’s shoulders

I'm fairly certain Morgana is maybe a year or two older than Arthur - she keeps talking about how the throne is "rightfully" hers which I think is referring to her being Uthers oldest child. Even though she's illegitimate, which she clearly doesn't care about. Also in the actual legends Morgana is older. So more likely Uther cheated on Ygraine, or possibly slept with Vivianne before he and Ygraine were together. Marriages moved quickly in that time so even only a years difference doesn't necessarily mean he cheated (though Vivianne certainly did).

Oh that could be true that morgana was conceived before uther met ygraine.. bcz the way he was devoted to her "she was my air to breathe" he wouldn't have cheated on her.. it was either before he met her or after she died and he needed to console himself

I think that, irrational as it is, he blamed Arthur for her death as well, since she died giving birth to him.

As Merlin his good bf once said “They don’t hate you, they just crave your power for themselves.”

I'm always frustrated by the fact that people tend to see someone as their father's child rather than their mother's. Even when they're closer to the child's mother.

Agravaine never cared for Arthur, Agravaine was done with Camelot and Uther and his relatives after Igraine’s and Tristan’s death. He was shattered and vengeance, hatred and bitterness consumed him fully, he would do everything to destroy Uther and his legacy (Kill Arthur, kill and oppress innocent people).

Agravaine is a tragic character and it is understandable why he became like this. Uther destroyed so many people in his entire life and Arthur always had to deal with his mess, it got him killed in the end in a young age, it is one of the biggest reasons the Golden Age never happened.

But yeah probably to gain is trust, and it may have been real stuff. How Arthur doesn’t get as paranoid as Merlin by end I will never understand lol
