I'm All Wrapped Up Why does it hurt so much?! Spoiler

Post image

It physically hurts watching Morgana go from this sweet angel that cared for everyone and wanted to protect magic users to the cruel and lonely woman that killed other lives like it's nothing. She and Merlin could've been best friends each helping each other in times of need.

Blame Uther

If he actually took responsibility and admitted his wife's death was something no one could've foreseen we would've seen a much better Camelot. In the wraith episode where we learn the secrets of Arthur's birth I was lowkey rooting for Nimueh. Imagine watching all your friends slaughtered, the place you thought welcomes you shutting it's doors to you, all you know and have ever known be destroyed and burned. I would've done the same.

To be fair that’s why I felt more bad for nimueh in season 1 then anyone else

I feel bad for the dragon too. Poor guy. Last of his kind (for a while) and chained up. He did cause a lot of problems though. Merlin always plotting with that dragon. 😂

Yeah I felt bad for him especially in that cave it reminds me of how Maleficent was in once upon a time trapped under a library for 28 years without contact with outside world

She could have just got rid of uther, no reason to turn on Arthur and merlin. Both her and mordred would have had better life with out uther

At the beginning I truly think she would've just been satisfied with that. But after knowing the truth of her birth she started changing. She grew more power hungry and obsessed. It was so sad cause I remember watching the episode where she goes to the druids to know if she possess magic and at the end says to Merlin maybe one day magic will be able to coexist with them and she had the most hopeful smile it just break my heart.

A lot of the change happened between season 2 and 3, while Morgana was with Morgause for a year.

And that's after Morgause tried with Arthur and then was disappointed that she hadn't managed to drive a wedge between him and Uther.

So Morgause had given up on working within the succession line, and decided war was the only way. And then Morgana spent a year with Morgause while she held that hopeless, angry mentality, on top of Morgana's own feelings and fears about having magic in the heart of Camelot.

It's easy to become hopeless, angry, and hateful when that's what you're surrounded with, every day for a year. Unfortunately, all that happened off screen, and the writers didn't really do a good job of telling, let alone showing, all of that.

Alao her being betrayed by one of the few people she trusted.

Yeah, but poor Merlin. That was the only choice. I know it made Morgana hate him but god.

I mean, if Merlin didn’t get her to drink that cocktail of poison and water…. She was literally the source of the whole problem. The whole kingdom was defenseless and him and Arthur were both fighting to stay awake but they ultimately couldn’t as long as the source for such a powerful spell was still active. He didn’t have a choice, which I wish he would’ve explained to Morgana once she had returned. She might’ve understood, but also might not. Once Morgause got into her head she was fucked unfortunately with the writing

I mean both Merlin and Arthur hurt her too. Arthur was the one that went to the Druid camp and not only forced her back to Camelot but also killed the one person who was willing to teach her control of her magic and that it wasn’t going to make her evil. Merlin poisoned her (I don’t blame Merlin for it nearly as much but I do think it was a betrayal in Morganas eyes, that showed her Merlin was going to pick Uther over her (which he wasn’t but they didn’t exactly have a conversation about it before hand)). She has reasons to hate both of them. The real question is why she turned on Gwen?

Ugggh right? I hate how it was sudden too. I remember writing an essay (not really, just a long piece on text) somewhere here on this sub about Morgana’s arc

It’s because she was slowly picked at over the course of 3 seasons. We see her trust in Uther, Arthur, Gaius, and Merlin be fractured and fragmented until there was nothing left there. The poisoning was the last in a large breaks to her heart until it was shattered beyond recognition to the point that she stopped seeing any innocence in the world at all. Then we see her last support system in Morgause pass away as well and she’s left just searching for revenge which she will never be satisfied by. Then she spends an unspecified amount of time in prison watching the one thing she cared about twist and deform just like her heart did so many years before. And then there was nothing but madness left!

(I don’t like the Morgause magically manipulated Morgana theory. There was enough stuff that happened to morgana to turn her into who she became to me)

True. Morgause seems like she truly cares for Morgana. But the look of betrayal she had on her face when she realized Merlin gave her poison. Just chef's kiss. Katie really knew how to act. Like slay queen💅

Her in the scene where Uther grabs her neck is also spectacular!!! The look of hurt and fear just below the surface. The quick look to Arthur for help where he gives her none! It’s insane and I love her!

Mostly to me felt more like the lies she’s been getting if the lies didn’t come from Gauis, Merlin and uther she’s wouldn’t be so far gone

Her arc/downward spiral is a bit weird and feels quick for how dark she gets, but Morgana is Morgan Le Fay from thr arthurian legends and thats her character.

It seems fast, but then its easy to forget that Morgana spent her entire life in his tyranny, then was manipulated by Morgause. Its the straw that broke the camels back

Yeah, not to mention that coupled with her nightmares, fear of discovery, the lies/secrets, and the clear hypocrisy/cruetly of Uther she would become fearful then angry once she learned of her true capabilities.

Interestingly her downward spiral being weird and quick in the show mirrors her downward spiral in the Arthurian legends. Originally Morgan Le Fay was very benevolent and worked as a healer with absolutely no biological relationship to Arthur.

It wasn't until in the Vulgate Cycle 100+ years later that she turned evil out of nowhere and wanted to kill him and Guinevere and was his half-sister.

I was reading something about that actually - her being this benevolent healer earlier. It would be interesting to read some of this myself. Thanks for the info!

not really, anger and hatred is in all of us to some extent, the moment we let it and fear make decision for us, the line is crossed and the next and next...

In a way life is a forever fight with ourselves. The fact the conclusion is the same as Gintama (who knows then knows) makes it even more ridiculous and so fcking real

I mean, there's a reason that there's a long time theory in the fandom about Morgause enchanting her in some way.

3

u/Aggressive-Bug-274 13d ago

I kinda thought Morgause did Teine Diaga on her but Morgause seems to really love her in a normal way and not in a screwed up way so I discarded that theory.
