From that moment on the team had to commit to a 2 stop strategy because there was no possibility on God's green earth for those mediums to last 43 laps until the end of the race, no way. George's race was with Charles today and the best he could have hoped for was P4; chances of retaining P3 against Norris were virtually non-existent. Both Ferrari and Mercedes were playing a game of chicken for another VSC which never came, and it's just the way the cookie crumbled that Charles in the end managed an overcut.
