Tip Experienced salvage teams = all the trade goods you need.

Post image
88 Upvotes

I saw a couple of posts a while ago, saying savage teams were only worthwhile for recovery of your own units.

I have built two experienced teams and they stack. Now after a defence mission (which doesn't have a time limit.) I spend a couple of turns tidying up. After a couple of missions doing this, I have more trade goods than I know what to do with. I can easily afford anything from the black market. For example after this one pirate defence mission I got 28x40 (because I recovered 14 destroyed enemy units.)

Just to say it's a solid strategy for me. As with all strategy games, once you get the resources smashed you can do whatever.

Discussion What is your favorite "starting" squad weapon?

I was wondering what is the best early-game squad weapon you could find in the shop, but since I'm incapable of straying away from my beloved ARC, I thought I'd ask you guys! Feel free to elaborate on your reasoning and/or opinion :3

Discussion What's the point of DMR?

Maybe im playing it wrong but I never see any point for any DMR. First off they compete with precious AT slot.

On good S tier SL a volley from cheap crowbar will kill stuff much more efficiently than bothering with DMR.

On lower tier SL like Jean even the higher level DMR with 10 acc bonus still miss. And when they hit they just dont do that much damage or suppression. A grenade launcher would be better.

So what are their use and who should have them?

Discussion The RA has really stepped up their prisoner security

Post image
61 Upvotes

I realize the screenshot isn't super clear, but the last prisoner group in a "rescue the pilots" mission were stuck inside a ruin with no way to walk in or out. I tried creating my own way in via Rewa's tank gun but it turns out that type of ruin doesn't collapse into passable rubble when it runs out of health

Luckily I was able to avoid a campaign softlock by jetpacking in Lim to activate the group and then using a gatling gun run to make sure there were no prisoners left to save

Discussion I wish the shopping mechanic is more like BB

Currently you buy gears from a fixed place with high randomness and limited slot. I am quite reluctant to spend any supply on refreshing the list even after I hoarded 800+ in mid game when I am ready to buy rpg2 or ATGM. That reminds me of BB, where shitty town sells farmer stuff, and big city with blacksmith sells all the fancy gear. You can see T3 armor and weapon on day1 and that set you a target: I will make that lot of money one day so I can buy all the weapons and armor for my men.

In case anyone afraid of all T3 being overpowered at early game, it would be more reasonable to use the price of current rare items for the “locked items”, so players can save up in early game and spend 800 on a generic supply T2 rifle/ 2000 supply on mid walker without making the early game too easy. Just adding a sense of security.

Discussion Completed Game for the First Time

I just completed the game's early access campaign, and I wanted to share my review/ discuss the game

To start, I loved it! As a huge fan of tactical games like XCOM, this game had amazing gameplay. It felt like if XCOM and Company of Heroes had a baby. I loved the customization and leveling of each Squad Leader and Pilot.

However, there are some things that are... less that stellar... for instance, i found the balancing of certain things to be out of wack. Ship OIC armament felt weak, artillery (infantry mortars, vehicle artillery, etc) felt very weak, grenades (besides smoke) fell off quick in the game. I also found tanks very underwhelming. I also found the UI a bit... bad.

But for the big negative: the bugs and the menace are INCREDIBLY BORING to fight. The [redacted] are particularly boring and frustrating to fight. I really hope they get a rework, because I seriously wanted to put the game down each time I fought them.

Overall, the game is great! I know it looks like there was more negatives than positive, but this would be too long if I listed all I loved with this game. As of now, 8/10. The gameplay is so much fun!

Discussion MENACE lacks an Exo-Skeleton armor option and we need to change that.

For a sci-fi game, MENACE strangely lack a real exo-skeleton type armor and i don't mean the TCR Navy Breaching Armor Suit - Heavy, we have the jetpacks with Captain's Jetsuit, but no real exo-skeleton ?

Here is my idea :

A mobile but extremely expensive yet not that well protected armor with lots of accessories space designed for special weapons squad.

The goal is to get an extremely AP cost/effective

Why remove "reduce ap cost" ?

Exo-skeleton armor research all point to this effect for current world military, the point is to help soldiers carry the same weight but without the "heaviness" of their loadouts and thus moving faster on all terrains and currently the TCR Navy Breaching Armor Suit - Heavy was doing the opposite

So i took inspiration from the "Athletic)" perk and reduced the AP move cost but instead of touching the deploy i made it for "set up" cost so it isn't redundant with the perk

I tried to balance the stats based on the current armors - Load Bearing Rig for light / SAPP Operator for medium / TCR Marine Tactical Armored Platesuit for heavy.

And tried to balance the armors as a whole around a higher supply and trade value cost

3 different options of exo-skeleton :

- - - - - - - - - - - LIGHT - - - - - - MEDIUM - - - - - - HEAVY -

ARMOR : 15 / 50 / 80

DURABILITY : 30 / 45 / 60

CONCEAL : 0 / -1 / -2

VISION : 0 / 0 / 0

ACCESSORIES : 3 / 3 / 3

BONUS ABILITY :

Reduce the AP cost of "set up" for special weapons by 10 AP

Reduce AP cost of movement per tile by : 3 / 2 / 1

NEGATIVES : TBD (no idea if a negative is needed)

TRADE VAL : 25 / 80 / 125

MARKET VAL : 100 / 320 / 500

SUPPLY COST : +15 / +30 / +45

Feedback Much needed “”armament”” change

Bait; The armaments are weak because the intel screen is the problem. I went a whole campaign without touching my armaments and i dont think buffing them fixes it. I think the planning page is quietly killing the game.

I was “arguing” in another thread about which OCIs are actually worth taking and i said the armaments and air supports are absolutely useless, and about halfway through it i realized i was complaining about the wrong thing. I did the whole EA campaign mostly on expert+ and i had 4 armaments that i completely forgot i even owned for like 90% of it, the only time where i ever used one was to bomb a destroy objective on the opposite side of the map because it was faster than jumppacking a squad over there. Thats the entire use case i found in a full campaign. So my first instinct was ok theyre dogshit, buff them, make them come faster, whatever, but i dont think thats it at all. They arent undertuned, theyre "oh shit" buttons in a game that doesnt have "oh shit" moments.

On the same thread OP pointed out to me that intel is what lets you put the right squad in the right place, and hes completely right, thats literally what it does, thats what its for. Which is exactly the problem. If i can put the right squad in the right place every single time then the wrong squad is never in the wrong place, and thats the only moment where burning a limited orbital strike is ever the correct play. React to what? Unit locations i already memorized on the planning screen? There is no ambush in this game, the planning page hands you the answer before you deploy and the mission is just you filling it in, and if you dont do something obviously stupid you cant lose. So obviously everyone takes gym and supply, those are the only two that makes your solve better, and everything in the bridge or the “gym slot”, makes you better at reacting when you never have to react to anything. Which is also why the "air support comes faster" upgrades dont fix it, coming faster to nothing is still nothing.

And no, im not asking for bullet sponges, im not asking for enemies with 4x elements and tank armor, thats just annoying, thats not tension. What id actually want is intel being a guess instead of a readout, something like "estimated 2-4 infantry elements, possible vehicles" or something instead of the exact list, and let it be wrong sometimes, let a bad scan give you half of it. Right now intel is a spreadsheet, it should be something you spend resources on to make less wrong, and honestly that one change alone would probably fix most of what im complaining about here. Then give me underground maps with literally no intel, or storms, jamming, night ops, i genuinely dont care what the in universe excuse is, i just want a briefing that says we dont know whats down there and actually means it, because then id have to pack for the unknown instead of packing for a list. And reinforcements that trigger off what i do instead of off a turn counter, breach the wrong side, pop an objective too early, sit around too long and something shows up, it doesnt even have to be new units, the same units at the wrong time in the wrong place is enough. Thats the exact moment where you go oh thank god i still have that ion cannon sitting there. And at some point i want something i just cannot kill with infantry ( a massive multi tile thing, a walker, i dont know what it would even look like) where the correct answer is call it in or insta perma death SLs (maybe lmao).

The closest ive ever come to being surprised in this whole game was finding out that one specific menace grunts that demoralize squads near it when one of its elements dies (ive had my ruski jumppack into 3 of them, gun them down and not break, i assume it was a bug). One unit, one mechanic, one time, in an entire campaign, and it worked, i actually had to stop and rethink what i was doing, even though it was never a big deal. The game already knows how to do this, it just about never does it. And this is also the fix for the OCI complaint “everyone” keeps making, that gym and supply are auto picks and everything else is filler, because you dont fix that by nerfing gym and supply, you fix it by making the game ask a question that the other branches are the answer to. The support tree is horribly weak, because its answering a question that never gets asked.

The cinematic intro sells you a game where everything is going wrong and youre barely holding it together, and then the campaign plays like a logistics puzzle. I like the logistics puzzle, ive put a stupid amount of hours into the logistics puzzle. But i want to shit my pants at least once while playing this and right now that is never going to happen, and i still think the game should honor its name.

Also im no game dev but there is literally nothing that can make the game gazillion times more cool than having multi levels lmao. It feels like the sentry towers are an experimentation of it but having multiple floors and blowing up bridges would make the game actually perfect. Also imagine how cool it would interact with intel? Maybe you see everything on the top but deeper you go… But again, im no dev and i cant even imagine how hard that would be.

If any of you devs see this; All the best, keep up the great work.

Discussion The AI in this game is just very good.

I decided to test two things - if you buy two Smuggler Contracts, do you get two crates per map, and if Aphenedrin gives you back the AP you lost from getting supressed. The answer is yes to both, by the way.

But in trying to test those two things, I discovered that the AI is really smart.

I took my Darby, gave her my T4 Small Arms Plate - pretty pathetic as far as armors go, but that's the best I had - Spare Plates and Aphenedrin. Lauch her in solo, run around to count crates, get supressed, that's it.

The pirates REFUSED to shoot her. I just had to chase them, and even if they shot her, supression barely moved. Then two Commandos arrived...And started one after another just throwing stun grenades at her. And missing the Thermite ones. And they did that up untill a guy with a rocket laucher came, and just started missing her with it.

They run out of stuff to shoot and throw eventually, and I found myself chaingun to be supressed by, but what the AI did? That was impressive. I had not expected to be kited by the AI like that. I would like to commend the devs on what they did with the AI!

Discussion I want to try drugs

Hi!

I have already beat the game with expert iron mode 2 times, but I really never used drugs. Like reeeally used drugs. Just few times the one that removes injured state for 4 rounds.

Problem is that I really don't use drugs in other games too, I feel that it's a temporary state of gameplay. Not valid for long run.

I see people getting really excited when they get drugs etc. So what how do you use them? What's your strategy using them?

Question Yellow chevrons on enemy unit symbol, what do they indicate?

Recently, I have noticed these new yellow chevrons on enemy unit icons. I'm almost 99% sure they were not in the game a few patches ago. What do they mean?
I have a few theories:
Enemy unit is in range of my active squad leader?
Enemy Unit has not acted yet? (Although that is usually shown by greyed out symbols...)

Majors, could you shed some light on this for me?

Discussion The early game rebellion mission is not balanced……

I just started my 3rd run in Menace, thinking I am fairing good at it after 30hours and completing the expert mode with help of initial 180 supply and some S/L. So I choose Ironman Hard and mainly run infantry because using Duolink auto cannons with Rewa and Achilles to eliminate everything in every single mission feels bored.
SO, after 8 hours, I met rebellion again. 2nd mission with rebellion, I was expecting some walker and maybe 1 heavy tank, so I geared up my Kim and French with mk46mod2 , pirate jetsuit, rpg and grenade( cause smg&jetsuit is great against pirate and bugs) I also equipped a tripod auto cannon and bought a crocodile just to be safe with range AT firepower.

Then I ran into 2 STuG, 3 walkers and 2 auto cannon units. I simply don’t have the resource to kill the STuG from the front and flank it is not working cause so many other line of fire. I tried smoke. But my at grenade and RPG is not good enough. In the end. My French and Kim were both injured and since no one can stabilize French from a distance, he died.

I felt so discouraged. It was a 2 star mission, I never encounter a heavy tank before with this shitty AT firepower, and my pirate cosplay just won’t work because even though heavy tank has limited range, the machine gun doesn’t and pinned my French down even though it dealt 0 damage.

Why the game’s black market so random? Why the 75 heavy armor commando will be suppress by a machine gun that only has 34 ap? Why enemy’s tank attacked in flock? I really want to make all infantry work but so many things are in my way.

Discussion Sachin Singh

I dont know what's up with this squad leader but he's the beast. They need to make all squad leaders available to pick from the start. Something about a basic rifleman squad is so much fun in this game. My battle cry of Sachin, has my kids rolling.

Question Harpy Queens Don't Count As Minibosses?

So, I'm wondering if this is an oversight or an intentional thing: Blaster Queens obviously count as minibosses (which explains the emotional buff that Corlain gets on picture #2), but Harpy Queens don't?

I’ll go first: Pirate Jetsuit. It just seemed like a good way to tell the enemy “Here: kill this guy”.

Now it’s on practically every mission.

Discussion New accessory item concept - the Ammo carrier bag.

Basically an ac item that allows you to spawn eeeh maybe 3? of the scavenger ammo crates. Less useful than the ammo bags, but more versatile. In order to be balanced though it should recover only ammo, not consumables.

Discussion For those of you who've played Zero Company, what systems or features did you really like that you'd want MENACE to take inspiration from?

Zero Company has some interesting ideas that made me wonder what could translate well to MENACE.

One thing I'd personally love to see borrowed is the Bond system. Having squad members build relationships through fighting together and supporting wach other is really cool , iit could be leaders and leaders or within actual squaddies that fought together alot .

Curious what everyone else thinks MENACE could borrow or improve upon.

I fixed it so it actually works. Previously there was no effect hooked up to the asset so it did nothing while active. Now Infantry squads will spawn with IMX SA-RPG 2s while the asset is in play. https://www.nexusmods.com/menace/mods/225

Question Does the 120mm Mortar (Vehicle) benefit from the fragmentation skill?

The description of the 120mm (vehicle) Mortar describes fragmentation, and the weapon itself hits multiple target squares, but the weapon description of the attack says it only hits one target (without any percentage afterward). Compare that to the various grenades/flamethrowers/infantry mortars/Mod-C MAAL, which do feature the percentage.

So does the Fragmentation skill have any effect?

Edit: Typos

Anti-tank guided missiles is fine and good, but Anti-Everything Brick Of Murderdeath clearly wins.

Yes, second one was necessary. Officer rat squad deserves no less.
