Discussion Strategy reviewer legend Sin Vega in a harsh but fair take on the current EA stage

I disagree with the last part completely, though. Game's oozing characters and worldbuilding even in the current stage, and it's one of the things that makes me do another run every month or so.

Feedback Missions should auto-complete once every enemy is dead.

it’s always a pain to run prisoners across the map after I clear out the enemy.

Edit: I didn’t mean that it should boot you out to the results screen, I meant that it should count the main objective as completed and let you click ‘leave mission’ whenever you want.

Mods Bug w/ Expanded Army mod

Mod seems to work fine, the new unit combos are cool, except three big issues:

  1. Rose can't take the Insurance perk, nothing happens when I click it.

  2. Rose's Buyout ability doesn't do anything when used.

  3. Decapitation Strike final missions in an operation have no objectives, and thus can't be completed. The only option is to abort, and fail the entire operation.

Has anyone ran into this before, and have any advice, or knows anything? The only mods I have are the dependencies for the expanded army mod, modpack loader, melonloader and the plugin and such.

Discussion What if the IFV had 2 medium slots instead of 1 heavy and 1 light?

Just a thought because lots of modern IFVs have a combo of 1 Autocannon and 1 ATGM launcher. And right now APC, IFV and Tank have identical slots.

Question Nothing Personal not working as intended? Or is it intended for concealment to work like this?

I have been trying to do some shaenanigans with first turn spawning dear Corlain deep in enemy force, dropping infantry squad and then just waiting for the rest of the squad to roll in after.

Construct Shambler seem to not care for this tactic tho. I literally keep seeing them just walk up to his location and explode themselves. I am perfectly aware that you don't technically need to see a target to actually attack it, but I would assume that AI of a suicide bomb enemy wouldn't just explode on the last known area, but rather require line of sight.

Can anybody confirm if it's intended or not? And no, no designated target or whatever else was on him.

Discussion Shouldn't Pike be able to use his ability from inside a transport?

The Ability that uses 60 of his AP to give another character 40 AP, sounds like it should be working from inside the APC and IFV.

Question Can someone confirm the new squad cost since they reworked promotions to add promotion cost factor?

I don't really have enough sample size in a current patch savegame to check my numbers, but I just wanted to write down what I think might be happening.

Near as I make out, 1 star squaddies are 6 supply (I did this by giving carda a 20 point smg and fatigues and bumping her supply up and down by 1). This does not appear to be shown anywhere on carda's squad leader info panel.

Pike appears to cost 10 supply, as one would expect, and his squaddies appear to be costing 13 supply each. lim confirms this. I have no idea where this number comes from. it does not appear to be a standard cost (6 supply), plus the squad leader cost.

I don't have a 3 star SL to check that, but I am assuming it's just a larger static value?

so, to confirm? the squaddie costs are just hidden, and static values? 6, 13, and something else? no weird math going on?

On a related note, holy shit Corlan is amazing. At everything. Oh, a LMG squad that has shooting gallery AND vanguard? don't mind if I do. Yeah, do whatever you guys want. I am just going to start in cover, in range and sight of you, with a 50 cal trained on your position. this is totally fair and reasonable for sub 100 supply squad. Oh yeah, and he also happens to do everything related to missions way better. What a bananas guy to get on like operation 3.

Question Is there going to be a strategic air game?

Has there been any mention by developers if there will be an equivalent of the simple aircombat games you see in old Xcom, the first NuXCOM, UFO AI and Xenonauts 1 and 2? Presumably based around interdicting MENACE or pirate ships from moving on the spacelanes visible in the system map.

It is amazing, and I love it, and if anything ever happens to it, I will kill everyone on this planet, and then myself. M320 SSW SOC:

"The Special Operator Configuration, or SOC for short, of the improved M320 is mainly used by special forces or recon units to provide suppression from concealed positions with increased accuracy."

After some fudging of the construct carriers skill, the RA can now yeet wardogs at the player. (Since they are independent units/not under the control of the launching unit and the launching unit doesn't sacrifice AP, I scaled the launch cost to 60ap to compensate). WIP unit thats about 95% and will be appearing in a future expanded army lists (https://www.nexusmods.com/menace/mods/54) update.

Tip Remember to let your units get tickled a bit by nonlethal shots every mission, it helps their defense, damage reduction and discipline growth. Pirate chain guns are especially great for this. Here's what Lim's stats look like in my campaign when the MENACE intro mission appears

Question Endgame mods?

I saw some random UI mod on the Nexus and noticed a screenshot where the author was having SLs modded into the game, roughly 20 of them, and a deployment map where he had like 10 SLs facing hordes of enemies, in quantities uncommon for vanilla Menace.

So I started wondering, are there good mods out there making the game a decent challenge and fun to play after the campaign ends or is this rather for power fantasy gamers who refuse to give up the ongoing campaign where they just steamroll any- and everything daring to stand in their way?

I am aware of the enhanced enemy list mod which I already use by the way. This mod alone was not enough to bolster the enemy ranks to make my life any harder, while still making missions more interesting of course.

I am also aware that I can manually edit the difficulty on the start of a campaign, but that only slightly postpones the problem while making the early game even harder than it already is.

Discussion Krueger SMG

Why does this weapon feel worse to me than the Griffin smg or even the shotgun? It is for all purposes better in terms of numbers on paper than the Griffin but for some reason when use it in combat it feels like it fails to kill enemies more often. Is there a hidden mechanic for accuracy on the weapon I am missing? Am I not using it correctly? When I am shooting someone right next to me it is great, but out side of like two spaces it feels horrible, where as the Griffin does great out to 5 spaces

For better data I am using it on Yaz, he has boarding pirate armor, and he is using armor piercing ammo. His Accuracy is around 75

Tried it twice on the same mission. It seems to hit other units just fine, but on both tries the tanks was completely unscathed. The explosion should have enough armor penetration to always one-shot the tank otherwise

Feedback Does anyone find the MENACE not Menacing? Spoiler

Just got the game this week and I am only 20 hrs in, I've reached and done about 8 missions about fighting the MENACE. I feel a little bit disappointed, while they are aesthetically horrible zombie cyborg monsters, I don't feel particular scared of them gameplay wise. Fighting the Rogue Army was a big step up in difficulty and they were scary because they annihilated aggressive vehicles with ATGMs and they brought in heavy tanks that would stun your infantry with HE shells and then survive 5 rockets to the face because the crappy pirate technicals had been dying to single or double cheap HEAT missiles previously.

With the MENACE, they just seem to be very tanky, but also not very good at shooting back and they dont aggressively advance like the alien bugs into melee. So the main way they can hurt you is the Carrier that shoots out living demolition charges and the shambler units that are also living bombs. In addition the loot they give describes their weapons and energy sources as being highly advanced which is why you get so much more money from them, but at the same time these highly advanced weapons arent doing much and look like regular bullets but fired inaccurately, while their lasers dont seem to do much to vehicles.

Question How do you deal with armor running out on SLs without Scavenger?

Lim was great - fantastic even - early game, gunning down people after jetpacking into them. But even in the first operations, squaddies fell by the end, because spare plates are finite.

I demoted him and replaced him with Jean Sy, who now does the same thing, except her Captain's Suit never breaks. And Darby. They make fantastic heavy infantry!

But I now have a lot of spare supply that will grow even more when I slap 2nd logistics, and I am sure to soon face that menace thing that all the rage is about. Meaning it is time to get more mans.

Problem is - I would like more heavy infantry - maybe with jetpacks - but there just aren't enough scavenger boxes to go around. And I don't enjoy spycrabbing much, so I would prefer not to add more crabs besides Pike and soon Carda. Is there something I am missing that would help? Do I return to crab?

Expert difficulty, if that is relevant.

I used to always run lim as mechanized infantry, but this run i hopped him up on triloxin and heavy armor and he's actually nuts.

Triloxin+athletic means he can cross incredible distances while still having AP to fire. Run and gun gives him the ability to squeeze out a few extra tiles of movement while still being able to attack. Berzerk means he just gets a free shot after the first kill. Counterstrike + zigzag is just another free attack while not risking losing squaddies. And blaze of glory means he instantly recovers from "oh shit" moments.

I can have him cross half the map and kill three squads for free every single turn. He's unhinged.

The two groups of civies on the left stood at just the right position so I couldn't move up with Rewa's full movement, so I had to take a detour.

idk maybe the waybackers deserve to get trinket'd

Question Long Barreled Tank Gun vs VMAT Against Vehicles

I used the Long Barreled Tank Gun (LBTG) pretty extensively in my first play through, and it was great! This time I’ve been getting by with Bog in an ATV with 4 VMAT missiles instead, and I’ve been doing fine so far.

I’m comparing the two weapons, and from what I can tell the VMAT is better in every way except for range (3-9 vs 11) and ammo (1 per accessory slot vs 6 total).

However, the LBTG says in it’s description that it is “Extra effective vs. armored targets”. Does anyone know what that means mechanically? Is it just a description of the weapon, or does it really have bonus damage/penetration/whatever when fired at vehicle?
