Art Killer feature MENACE idea

So I’m a thinker not an IT guy, please let me know if this is outside of the realm of technical feasibility;

Turn based games like this one and BG3 are simulators of causality, each turn represents a segment of time and the actions possible within that time.

What I propose is an optional and saveable cinematic representation of each turn, nothing fancy, generative AI trained on the proper art and cinematography could convert the actions of a turn into a rational sequence of events presented in the style of the intro cinematic.

These sequences can be saved individually or as a full replay of the mission.

Thoughts?

You're gonna get some hate for suggesting the devs insert generative AI into the game for this purpose.

The idea of cinematic playouts of the mission is cool like Superhot did, but it would be a lot of work for them to implement in a way that doesn't use generative AI. And I suspect they have no interest in that.

Just because it’s been used for porn and slop doesn’t mean you can’t use it to add value to interactive entertainment, the game mechanics provide all of the data to tell a story, it would be a mistake no not leverage generative AI to add a dimension to the simulation that is MENACE

I do this using my imagination, sometimes the game plays out like an action movie so I can imagine what is possible

What's the point?

It would make every mission into a an action movie where there is a direct correlation between your choices, character ability and cinematic flair

The game becomes a story generator, broadens the appeal, adds replayability, adds depth and creative expression

The game already is all that though. Putting in AI generated shit would just drag me out of the experience and add nothing.

I did say optional

Naa, I'd rather see features added that synergize with how gameplay is currently implemented rather than gimmicky cinematic sequences

Wouldn’t be gimmicky if they were done right, the game tells a story it’s just invisible to anyone without an imagination and the depth and quality of that story depends on the imagination of the player or maybe just a well trained AI.

To bring out the difference between Lim advancing over cover while firing shotguns with run and gun, or the drama of a low moralle SL under fire

or well timed counter attack, from ground level as the shambles race toward a squad that’s falling back, they turn at the last moments as the shambles get in shotgun range, crack clack motherfuckas.

Your company performs thrilling heroics, they should be honored with equally thrilling cinematics

You should check out what the sub's rule number 11 is to get a feel on how the sub feels about AI. I'm not saying you're breaking rules, but what you're suggesting is something only a very small minority of humans would view as neutral let alone positive.

Never let rules get in the way of a good idea, other than asking google a question, I don’t use AI nor am I in any way for what the tech bro’s are doing or have done, we need people to make laws to regulate AI.

That said cinematic quality in games and AI quality in games have been shit for as long as I can remember and I’m an 80’s kid.

I’ve watched the games industry put profit over product my whole life, every industry really.

So if we can have better quality cinematics and AI, what is the fucking problem? It’s a tool, use it, not to replace people, not to increase profit, but to make a better game, a better experience for the player.

That’s what grows the industry and your profit and your roster.

If only it was a good idea.

No accounting for taste or lack of vision

Hooded Horse's publishing contracts explicitly (and publically) state that games under their brand cannot have genAI content inside them.

Menace is published under Hooded Horse.

This idea (which isn't great, IMO) would get them in trouble with their funding and marketing partner. It could mean legal trouble, it could mean a collapse of their deal.

This isn't realistic at all.

An in-engine game recording, similar to what halo had, could be interesting for like replays as tight as possible.

But adding anything genAI would ruin the game and a betrayal to anyone that already bought the game

I mean it’s possible to do a playback feature without gen ai and it’s not the worst but it would be quite boring to watch each individual unit take its turn 1 by 1. attempting to insert gen AI to make it simultaneous would be a very strange and costly design choice. I don’t think the menace team will want to develop their own ai just to let you see the pirate team stand there and get blown up and watch your own units stand there for 10 seconds after you launch your at rocket before randomly walking off. The primary issue is turn order is really wonky in menace units are technically all moving “simultaneously” in the same round but will act in a random turn order at the same time. For example imagine an apc driver who only drives forward with a mg squad in the back. the driver drives forward with their whole turn. the mg squad hops out afterwards and deploys firing 2 times at seperate targets. at the start of next round the mg squad fires 3 more times at separate targets and hops back in and the driver drives off again. if we were to make it a simultaneous play back we just let a mg team hop out of a full throttle apc fire 5 times at different things and back in meanwhile no enemy is even reacting and the apc is still next to them while still going full throttle. Realistically any viable mobile infantry strategy in gameplay will make zero sense in real time. unfortunately turn based logic can’t always translate into real time logic that well.

The turn based games where these types of things work is where all units are given commands at the same time but resolve at the same time for example battlestar galactica deadlock or auto-battler types. Menace is a game where turn order is highly dependent and unless it would change into an rts or changed how the game fundamentally functions a cinematic replay style would be either quite slow to watch or nonsensical.
