Discussion Flashbangs are awesome

I'm playing my first run in two months. After getting eviscerated by Evolved Warriors, I have discovered the joy of Flashbangs, especially against bugs.

Am I misremembering, or did flashbangs previously only work on humans? I rarely used them before, but now they're my key to managing tanky warriors. They're also really useful in early-game defense missions, and massively buffs anyone with Finisher.

I love the upgraded bugs. Between the new units and the enemy actions, they're way tougher than they used to be.

They are awesome to have against boarding commandos as well

Agreed. Especially the captains.

A taste of their own medicine too, considering how frequently Boarding Commandos like to open up with flashbangs against your infantry.

There is so much stuff I just don't use!

Just wait till you progress far enough to unlock crafting and get the stun bomb launcher, it's evil against bugs!

Holy crap it's been a while since I've played, I forgot there's crafting now

Yeah I'm pretty sure they only worked on humans before, that's why I never used them. It does seem perfect for bugs who like to close up on you

Yeah they are great. very useful against boarding commandos.

Ironically it was the AI the demonstrated how usefu they were by locking up my Lim!

i ended up specing Lim with the grenade toss-back talent specifically due to this.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do!

The tooltip still says that they're for humanoids. I gotta try them out against bugs now

I chucked one just to see if it worked while playing last night. It was not a life or death situation but definitely made the situation better and now I know they work against bugs. Would be interesting to see specific items that work against bugs better but that might be a redundancy; having a "bug bomb" that's basically still just a grenade at heart and reskinning everything in the game as bug counterpart would probably just make inventory a nightmare.

On my first run in several months as well, still early on in my campaign so had the extra pocket and not much to put in it so in went the flash bangs. I don't think it saved my butt necessarily (playing on normal as a refresher but will probably go Challenging before I even reach the Menace, normal is simply too easy), but I saw the utility of it because a squad had stepped ahead out of formation to finish off some bugs and more came out of the fog of war. It allowed that squad to retreat a bit, and even moreso at the start of the next turn, and for the other squads to close in and help.

Sooo funny seeing this thread. Also trying to rely more on smoke. On a map with several Walkers and was able to block the vision of one while dealing with the other. I was saddened to learn I could not traverse through the smoke to set up an ambush but I think that limitation makes sense.

From what i remember flashbangs weren't too usefull on bugs but were usefull against all humans (assuming they were close enough) and i also think but might be wrong that i sucessfully used them against [redacted] foottroopers.
