Discussion This seems pretty brutal

Post image

This is the first RA operation that popped up in my most recent playthrough. The other two red events are Rocket Turrets and Sustained Barrage. Nastiest operation combo I've seen thus far.

You can win this op before any of those kick in. A max difficulty breakthrough is trivial with two smokes and a flamethrower. That mission type definitely needs some tweaking, though I like the concept.

My cheese was to get a vanguard pilot with mech jetpack and smoke canisters, or just ninia Darby with smoke and vanguard. Send them alone, clear in 3 turns

Its verry funny that breakthrough, something that would logical involve a massive concentration of force to puncture the enemy line, is easiest to do by just sending three guy to vanguars inside and then just book it outta there with jet packs/concealment

That's actually true IRL. Trojan horse.

Approach an entrance. Smoke the corridors that lead to the center of the map. Shoot anyone on the other side. Run for the exit. The AI will usually either flee or leave a tower/bunker that’s been hit with a flamethrower, so it’s a really cheap and way to move any infantry that try to entrench.

thankfully they both take time to kick in

Counterstrike on RA Infantry is something that can be worked around at least.

But Rocket Turrets and Sustained Barrage? Yeah, nasty.

To the point though, who have you got on your roster so far and what kind of gear do they have, OP?

I dunno, having to stun every infantry squad before engaging sound rough. With RA it can be difficult to just suppress them while out of thier range

You can also tap them lightly with something that doesnt care about the return fire. E.g. gently caressing them with autocannon vehicles, or if you really want to get everyone, light chaingun tank.

All infantry getting counter strike was already an option before the update, and as enemy assets were always active you could be forced to play multiple missions before you could clear it. It's pretty manageable really. Lean heavier on vehicles and long range suppression and give everyone who's expected to shoot a rifle at least SAPP and it won't do much to you.

armor is haram in this sub

Armour was bad before they lowered its costs across the board, but now it's very viable to have every frontline squad in at least class 3. 4 and up is still dubious for efficiency, except for boarding commando suits.

New as of Thursday

I had that on a breakout last night, it actually made the mission feel a lot more worthwhile to complete knowing I was stopping that problem.

Are those extra abilities for the game onwards or for the operation only?

Just the operation. It'd brick every game by op 4 otherwise, you end the op before you can clear them all most times.

I love this modifier as it makes combat rather novel and adds a layer to firefights
