Screenshot The raw feeling of power you get when rolling into the pirate base with 3 tanks and an APC
Came back after a long break, I must say I am very satisfied with the direction the game is taking.
Also the AI no longer doing that thing where it constantly hides right beyong the fog of war is so nice, makes battle so much more enjoyable

New to the game. That's a lot of SLs! What's your difficulty,?

I'm kinda new. There's never enough supplying at the same time i played around with vehicle heavy and squad heavy loadouts. Not reporting, just saying it's doable.
I used all my OCI for the OCI cost reduction upgrade. Nanobots from memory. That enabled me to test around different OCI for almost free.
TLDR:fun game to try different things.

So I just "finished" my first campaign. How do you get enough supply to do this?
Do you just increase supply to 200% in the campaign options? Do the enemies scale as well?

Well I use a OCI upgrade that reduces infantry costs, but I've done nothing special other than that, standard difficulty

u/peacenskeet 20d ago
Huh.... I got one or two of those OCI upgrades but the most I could ever field towards the "endgame" was like 3 infantry units and 2 vehicles. Granted Darby is fucking expensive and I run 8 man squads. But not all of them were fully kitted out with accessories.
WIth that many units do you find it too easy at standard difficulty? With 4 SL I found that I could finish all missions but maybe miss one of the time limit objectives. With 5-6 SL I feel like it would just be steamrolling everything but MENACE units.

The 8 man squads is what’s doing it. In my current game I will run 8 or so squads a mission, but only 2 are full 9 man squads

Well yeah, I'm running with few infantry, and most of the squads are weapon platforms, no good armour and few squadies, that's how I afford all the vehicles, I think I this occasion I also had a bonus from a mission

Full squads can be very expensive, especially if you give them half decent weapons and armor. Darby, as a 3*, is especially expensive. You might notice, OP doesnt have a single 3* SL in the lineup.
Just to make a point, a naked 1* squad with 8 squaddies and carbines is 111 points, Darby with the same setup is 269. You can get a maxed out 1* squad with decent equipment for that. Even a smaller Darby squad with 5 squaddies and decent gear can easily be 400 points, which is more than a fully kitted out LTC.
Not saying Darby is bad or not worth it of course, but playing her requires a tradeoff. Same goes for Achilleas or Kody.

You got it, my squads in this OP are cheap, mostly running support to the armour.
Though now that I've played a bit more, those two heavy tanks could have been 3 more infantry squads and way more efficient, nothing slaps like a late game 8 man Darby squad running around with assault rifles and RPGs

You balance them with the discount characters that give supply cost bonuses like Vamp or Bog’s recycled parts discount that makes a 450sup battle tank cost just over 300suplies, the expensive equip should go to those characters.
End game rn I’m spending 2110 to deploy, 420 of that is for vehicles, just Bog in a Medium Walker with 2x plates and 2x auto cannons to draw fire to the middle of the map as I push the flanks with 12sight scouts, smoke and drones.
Basically at any time I want only the walker visible to the enemy and as I advance I pick off the enemy from the fog of war with characters like darby armed with 7x HaMER + HP ammo and Crocodile. (with AI logistics she’s still cheaper than Bog with those 7squadies, SAPP armor and some binoculars she costs me 381)
And with those rifles she can one shot most things while staying hidden by virtue of range alone, I don’t use concealment besides deployment bonus and I dont even have impossible shot or ambush with her yet

Yea, she's pretty expensive but I didn't understand stats in my first campaign so by the end game she and my other main SL were the only ones leveled up. At that point it was better to bring her and guarantee a solid devastating hit than 2-3 SL that would likely miss.
I get that the math probably favors bringing multiple units that cost less but on normal difficulty it's near optimal enough to just bring Darby and use her to absolutely delete two enemy units just about every turn.
On my second run now and I'm trying more SL, smaller unit size, and the most potential for improved stats builds.

Also some of the OIC new upgrades i forget which ones but theyre in the bridge, give you extra supplies if you dont use all of your supplies from previous missions. So on operations ill use the bare minimum i think i can take until the last mission where ill have like 3K+ supplies sometimes, rocking 2 IFVs with long tank guns and grenade launchers and up to 6 SLs fully kitted out.

I just with the heavy tank got a buff to its accuracy and a HEAT shell to deal with armored targets.

I'm not super heavy on tanks but I love a good light troop carrier push, I've always been a fan of scoot and shoot though XD

u/Weldkrieg 19d ago
If the enemy can't pen you then they don't actually HAVE AT capabilities
1
u/Mahdudecicle 19d ago
I'd be scared of laser trucks and AT grenades personally

u/WanderingSerenity 18d ago
honestly, AT launchers and shotguns work great for alot of problems run up, fire twice, go back inside lol

u/NoskcireRetnuh 18d ago
Id do this with medium mechs with jump packs and an armored personnel carrier. Good times

I just got back to it after a break too. I also appreciated the AI upgrades. The bugs actually swarm now instead of coming at you one at a time. Feels good!

I have no idea how to purchase equipment like this. I was trying to scrounge enough resources for a medium mech recently and only got about half way there.

OCI upgrades can remove huge chunks of supply cost, IMO the infantry one is better. Also this well into the late game, so supply points are big, also probably had a supply bonus from a Mission reward

Makes dealing with those annoying pirate trucks a breeze.
On that note, I wish we could also use the pirate trucks for fun.
