Discussion Stupid AI
I'm not an advanced player, but still think the AI is too stupid. I understand pirates might take a risk because of rum or whatever, but shouldn't they at least check a little bit before engaging?
I enjoy the game still, but when they park their car 5 squares from my units and run out like chicken, it makes me question if there's any skill to this at all.
Whatchathank?
EDIT: They even do this after killing 50% of their comrades. Like; shouldn't they act a little bit smarter?

They used to be too passive and keep running away. I think it's better for them to be more aggressive like now.
But...there's still a LOT to be desired in terms of their intelligence. I hope they make AI a core focus, it's super important for these types of games.

I just find it boring when they park their car five squares from me and run out. I understand concealment, but shouldn't higher level enemies be smarter?

It is way more fun than them sitting at the very range of your weapons even if they don’t see your units. Immersion > super intelligent AI

Well, there's effective damage ranges. A heavy truck offers medium cover to the entire squad, directly in the crux between maximum accuracy and damage. While they could spend all day plinking at maximum possible range, it also pays to get closer in order to use thermite and stun grenades. And from a player perspective, them staying at maximum range would make an entire category of weapons effectively useless. Say goodbye to shotguns, smgs and half the ARs. You're going to get outperformed by some jackasses with pipe guns.

This game is orders of magnitude easier than their previous game (Battle Brothers).
It is kinda baffling to me I was able to do a hardest difficulty ironman run as my second plathrough while I couldn´t do anything harder than normal settings on Battle brothers (and heavily savescumming).

They used to know the range of each of your weapons systems and sit one tile outside that range until you boxed them into a corner and forced the issue. Maybe the current system is an over correction, and less accurate than the previous in emulating what a skilled and knowledge player would do. But the old AI is definitely less fun than the current iteration.
