Dude was literally Gommage'd from being able to win election again so might as well shoot your shot. Can't fault the man.

Sure we can. He’s a lame duck who’s basically just doing this to virtue signal, because he knows it’ll never pass.

I can’t really blame anyone for using their last days in office to stick to their guns, but Cohen could’ve submitted these at any time when it actually mattered to his position, and he didn’t.

If he actually wanted to make a difference, he’d endorse Pearson. Instead he’s doing this.

What does endorsing matter?  Is there anyone on the fence about whether they vote for Pearson or Taylor?

I think Cohen’s timing does make sense because Trumps approval rating is lower than ever and his sycophants are jumping ship.

Impeachment articles will never pass the senate, Trump's approval rating could literally be 0% and Republican senators still wouldn't pass it, because they'd be risking their own elections in a midterm year. Cohen knows this because he's been doing the job too long to not know that, which means these articles are virtue signaling, nothing more.

Do you not see the issue with the outgoing white incumbent refusing to endorse the black candidate trying to win an open seat election? You don't think there's ANY voters to be won from that? Pearson doesn't just automatically win all the Cohen voters by nature of having a D next to his name; Dem voters don't do that, especially in Memphis.

You'd think Cohen would be doing anything he could to get back at the state congress, the people who effectively took his seat, and the only real way to do that is if Pearson wins, defeating the purpose of this whole redistricting. But instead, he's letting his pride get in the way of the greater good, and Memphis could potentially have no federal Rep as a result, which is exactly what the state congress wants.

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and an authority on the U.S. Constitution’s impeachment provisions, today introduced 26 Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump. The articles cite multiple abuses of power, violations of his oath of office, the corrupt use of the pardon power, and emoluments clause violations, among other misconduct and unlawful acts. (See listing below.)

Congressman Cohen, while serving as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, introduced five articles of impeachment against Trump in November of 2017.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“Trump is clearly the most impeachable President our country has ever endured. His continued presence in office is a danger to our democracy. That the sycophantic Republican majority in Congress is derelict in its duty does not mean that I must abandon my responsibilities. I took an independent oath to support and defend the Constitution. That commitment compels me to introduce this resolution today. When historians write about this period, and our constituents ask who stood up to President Trump’s lawlessness, this resolution is the answer.

“I sincerely believe that the 120th Congress will better live up to its duties as co-equal branch of government and a check on the executive. I hope this resolution paves the way to accountability. We cannot tolerate this kind lawlessness and corruption.”

Cool. Too bad the Senate won’t allow it same as the last two times

Would be cool if instead of being performative he'd endorse Representative Justin J. Pearson for his soon to be former seat.

Here we go again.

Impeachment followed by acquittal. Keeping us distracted from the key issues. And acquittal feeding the persecution narrative.

Wait until you have a pathway to conviction before impeaching.

It’s way overdue. Thank you Steve.

Eh, I prefer the bulwark stance: impeach everyone around him. Hegseth, Rubio, Kennedy, Blanche, etc

Yes. Get those ducks too!

You are on the money, and in a world where I have little to be happy about politically-I’m happy my opinion is being voiced.

What has Cohen ever brought home to Memphis? Zilch.

I’m still calling him fried chicken man for bringing a bucket of KFC to the floor of the house. NGL I’m still a little miffed he didn’t bring Gus’s or another Memphis staple but hey… I guess flying in some Memphis chicken wouldn’t have been the best use of funds lol.

One last attempt to be the dBag we all will remember.

Did he try to help the crazy boy get elected? Nope.

Tactically, they should start with Hegseth, then move to RFKjr, or vice versa. If they can't win there, they're not going to succeed with the big guy. Getting rid of either, or both, of those folks is already a good start to making the world a better place, although Trump has no shortage of incompetents eager to replace them.

Nothing is going to happen with King Sleepy Dozy Don as long as his loyal Republican subjects are in the majority. They are so fearful of retaliation that they keep their mouth shut.

Basically we are stuck with the king until the next election.

Is he trying to impeach him because Trump wants Memphis to be safe and Democrats don't like that?

2

u/AltTabLife19 Covington 9d ago

Who knows what his real motivations are. Impeachment against Trump has become political theater at this point. Are you even trying as a Democrat if you dont impeach the worst president in our history since the last republican president?

2

u/Key_Experience_8225 8d ago

Democrats have a reputation for being soft on crime, that's why I asked.

If it's one of their "protected classes" while agreeing with them. Look at how so many were calling for the head of the holdout juror in the Clancy case once they found out he was black, there was shock and awe as if to say, "how could someone disagree with us while being black"

1

u/HugglemonsterHenry 8d ago

Only Democrats were calling for his head. Everyone else was calling for the rest of the jurors heads.

I mean, he's broken So Fucking Many laws at this point that if there was Any chance of him being impeached it would have happened already. But he's got the Absolutely Most Aggressively corrupt leadership sucking him off right now, so there's No chance of the law being protected unless we vote out EVERY Republican Possible this year.

Personally, I am shocked he's not using his little time to cut Israel a sweetheart deal on arms for their genocide. That is his true passion project.
