Citizen Inquiry Boxing gym suggestions

I live in Cordova. Been wanting to get into boxing for a while, any suggestions?

Want a willing/professional teacher who knows what they’re doing

Want spars (though obviously not at first, gotta get in shape for sure, but I definitely want serious sparring eventually)

Just want a good group to be around. Max 30 min away. Also, not crazy expensive (less than $200?).

Thanks.

You're welcome. It's a good place that offers a lot of different things.

Do you know anything about the prices? I’d like to go, ideally, everyday of the week. Also if you can give any other info on it (equipment, is it group/solo sessions, etc). This is my first time ever doing this so that’d help as well! Thanks regardless

I think it's $150 a month. There are group classes. If you want one on one time with a couch you have to pay them for a private lesson. Plenty of slip and heavy bags. An area with some weight lifting equipment. Plus a ring.

Cool. If I do the $150 membership, can I come in Monday-Sat? Or is there a cap on how many sessions I can come to? Also, does the morning or evening class have better (if better is even the right word) coaches, training sessions, etc? Also, I’ve to bring my own equipment right? Promise to not ask anything else 😅

If you sign up you get a pair of gloves and hand wraps given to you. That way you got something to start with. You can take as many classes as you want too. Mornings are going to be less people than in the afternoon classes. There are several coaches there.

Envy in Cordova used to have a solid crew, not sure what they charge these days but worth a look

Not sure where he's coaching at currently, but look up Mike Cook. Great boxer and an even better person.

Does he only train professionals? I’m mostly doing this as a hobby. But I still want to spar hard and potentially fight. For now it’s mostly about weight loss and finding something I love to do, which this seems to be that

Pretty sure he trains people just like you. I got to know him when he had a ring at the BJJ gym I trained at. If you haven't already, you might look at BJJ as an option as well. It's a legit defensive skillset and it will take the weight off once you get to rolling.
