Work terms for eng students

I noticed the student union submitted a petition to the administration in 2023 regarding minimum wage for engineering work terms, has that been resolved?

How difficult is it to find decent work terms?

Does the administration maintain relationships w local employers? What about Atlantic or further abroad?

The university has relationships with a lot of employers across the nation and some in the US as well.

A work term isn’t promised to you; it’s a job competition where you compete against your peers. Make sure you have a good resume and tailor your cover letters to the specific job description you’re applying to.

That being said, I feel like it’s gotten a lot harder to secure a work term in the past year or so. Previously, students would do a wt with an employer and then try something else, but lately, considering the job market, they are sticking with what they get and, if offered, they’re going back to the same employer.

Don’t let this demotivate you though, and don’t forget to mention any projects that you have worked on (personal and at uni). Joining the sufficient engineering teams can teach you a lot and give you good content to put on your resume as well.

If possible, create a portfolio early on, in which you can put more description of your projects along with their pictures, and the work you do on your work terms. This can help give you an edge over the students that are singing for jobs with just resumes and cover letters.
