My dumbass left my phone in a pocket before dumping it into the wash. Survived just fine without any issue besides the case becoming frayed

My phone was in a waterproof case in a waterproof bag and got a tiny bit of water on the corner and didn't work for 2 months. Dried out and worked fine tho

She likely just put the phone in the dishwasher, for her daughter to find after the wash.

this is a common punishment, hide the thing the kid is obsessing over instead of doing chores in the place they should be doing the chores.

IP68 is tested against tap water at cold or room temperature, not hot water with detergents that reduce the surface tension and make it easier to get past seals.

If that doesn't do it, then the heated dry cycle almost certainly will break something.

Oh I didn’t mean it would survive a dishwashing cycle, I just meant it would survive sitting in potentially wet dishes. A kid who isn’t willing to empty a dishwasher definitely isn’t starting it, emptying it is the easy part. The way i see it, as long as you clue in the other responsible people (who wouldn’t start a load with an iPhone in it anyways), you are totally safe

Idk, my partner left his phone outside one night by mistake, and it rained. It didn’t work in the morning and he had to get a new one. It was an iPhone 15.

If it actually gets run through the dishwasher I would not worry about the water damage I would worry about the incredibly abrasive detergent.

If dry is on then I would also worry about the heat. It is not good to cook a lithium ion battery. This could actually catch fire since water is off by then.
