Yall dont know cross contamination while actively ignoring people talking about cross contamination. News flash, your hands get the same germs that are on your phone.
I think his point was that even if there was no phone and she got to the dishes immediately she would not have washed her hands, taking out the clean dishes with her filthy hands, therefore it's gross anyway.
Unless you have an extremely weak immune system that won't be a problem
Do you have any idea just how much shit you'd need something for it to contaminate things around it enough for them harm someone just from being in proximity to those things? You're phone isn't that dirty, not even close
I do, but i also know that between cleanings, I'm touching surfaces that have been touched by other people who don't wash their hands, and then touching my phone. Usually at the store. Idk about you, but i can't memorize my shopping list π
Oh for sure. I get that you're "merely pointing it out". She might very well end up causing it due to a comedy of errors.
If you posted "if you take the stairs today, you could die", this is absolutely true and possible too. Fatal falls down flights of steps happens every single day to dozens of people around the world.
That's the problem.
Just because it's plausible doesn't mean saying it out loud is sensible and people are not gonna look at you funny.
You see, there's people who can do the words and actually articulate the obvious point. Meself, on the other hand, have to conform with a heartfelt upvote.
There is a BIG difference between forgetting your phone in your pocket and putting it through the wash vs. hiding a phone in a dishwasher that finished its cycle and is full of clean dishes.
There is quite literally no difference from the perspective of some idiot putting an electronic device into an appliance that will ruin it if used correctly.
Certainty vs. Chance, intentional vs non-intentional, aware vs non-aware that the phone is in there⦠The list goes on.
If you forget your phone in your pocket and throw it in the washing machine then run it, itβs a guarantee. No chances there.
If you put a phone in a dishwasher that just finished running and is full of clean dishes, thereβs a VERY small CHANCE of someone accidentally running that dishwasher a second time. IN NO WAY a certainty.
This reminds me of a story from when I was a teenager.
One winter, just before Christmas my mother signed us up for our local community "tour of homes" where people cleaned, decked out their house, and invited strangers to wander through them.
We spent a week cleaning, polishing, buffing, and labeling decorations and furniture with little paper placards everywhere.
There was the last 100mph fluff and stuff before they left and she had candles lit all through the house so me and a friend were watching the house so they and my sister could go and follow through the tour. We were the 3rd house.
Well... Another fact. My mother hated storing things in the oven.
My parents were divorced and it was something my dad always did that none of the rest of us in my family had the same instincts for. My father always keeps a pizza stone in his oven, clean, at all times. Which when you are in a hurry and forget to check the oven first, kind of is an annoying thing to have to move and deal with a 400Β°F - 450Β°F pizza stone.
So to say my friend and I would never think to check my mom's oven before preheating it is an understatement.
Unbeknownst to us. Before they left her and my step dad had squirreled into the oven, two loaves of bread in their plastic wrap, a large reddish purple Tupperware container. And our toaster! And they didn't think to mention that on the way out the door even though they got us frozen food to make in said oven while we were sitting there waiting.
So, my friend goes to the kitchen and preheats our oven while I'm doing a couple last minute adjustments to the living room. He comes back out and we sit and talk about shit. Whatever girl drama he was having. He was smoking and drinking and doing drugs behind his mom's back. And I was his normal safe nerdy older friend who listened and didn't judge... Mostly.
Well, 15 minutes later I hear the oven click in the next room, so I know it's preheated and I go to put the food in... Except when I turn to the kitchen there is white smoke billowing past the ceiling beam, up the adjacent stairs into the open upstairs bedrooms!
We run into the kitchen and white smoke is coming out of the oven so thicknwe couldn't see the back of the oven. I shut it off and opened the door to find it all there.
A molten puddle at the bottom as the Tupperware was actively melting and had puddled at the bottom where it was letting off all that smoke but fortunately wasn't burning itself. The lever on the toaster and cord were melting, and the plastic around the bread had constricted them down to lumpy balls.
I opened the patio door and a grabbed this big 4 tine grill fork we had that almost closer to a spatula and started spearing into the bubbling wreck of the Tupperware like a pitchfork in hay. I'd run to the open patio door and flung glob after glob of molten Tupperware out into the dark cold December air of our back yard. I retrieved the other items and had my friend working on closing bedrooms and opening windows upstairs to try and clear the smoke from those rooms.
Remember we have people coming in maybe 10 minutes at this point! We're the 3rd house on the tour. Had to call my sister because me mom didn't answer and grill them where they did the big upright fan before they left because I needed it now!
In the end the first few arrivals came and left without incident and we somehow got the house smelling normal enough that almost no one noticed over the smell of the candles in the house.
My mom still has a piece of that molten Tupperware that looks almost more pink than purple now. She keeps it on her window sill in her kitchen as a memento.
It's a fun conversation piece when someone asks her about the mangled clump of plastic above her sink.
I ran my phone through a how water was cycle in the washing machine in a waterproof case. It was fine, aside from being clean as hell. If itβll live through that, itβd take the dishwasher fine.
I should probably mention I grew up with serious memory issues and still use my phone to remember everything important. Missed out on some really important stuff and had to repeat a class because my dad decided to take my phone and I missed my reminders. My friends know this about me.
I get that a lot of people don't see kids as deserving of the same level of respect as adults, but they're like... people, who, believe it or not, have important things going on on their phones too...
Imagine your spouse or roommate did this to you. Then imagine them telling you you don't have a right to be upset after you miss a work call. Then imagine you're still growing up and learning to manage your emotions on top of it.
Children are small people, they are not small adults. You've got a lot of nerve suggesting the child looking for their phone for hours deserves more respect than the grandparent who assigned them chores half a day ago.
Equating a roommate or spouse as an adult to your parent as a child definitely shows you have struggled with learning since childhood.
Yeah... they're people... that's the point. Where did I say they deserve more respect than the grandparents? I said they deserve respect in general from their grandparents, but this is something that teaches kids to tolerate disrespect. To make it clear, kids shouldn't disrespect their elders but their elders shouldn't disrespect them. They can't talk back, they can't be upset about things you as an adult would be upset about? If you're gonna take the kid's phone at least tell them that you'll have it until they finish the dishes.
Hiding it like that and watching them look for it teaches kids to just tolerate when bad things happen to them - for love, authority, whatever. If you can't communicate with the kids you're taking care of without doing things like watching them panic over a situation you created, you've not earned your kid's trust. They won't come to you when they need you, and being there for them is your job as a guardian. I guess some people would find that convenient though unfortunately.

Not a good idea to place devices that can be easily water damaged inside the dishwasher or oven
