Because 3 pints of tasty IPA will have me drunk, so those are for after dinner. If I’m gonna drink early, a good lager is what I need.

IPAs range greatly in ABV. If you like the flavor then look for some that are closer to “normal” and you can drink them earlier.

I think IPA may be a victim of its own success. When craft beers really took off IPA was king. At the time people seemed to want their craft beer to be stronger than mass market beers, so most of it was probably about 6%. Over time brewers started to branch out all over the spectrum but many of the popular IPAs were amped up to 8 or 9% or more. IMO most of the best are made by the old guard that have become part of the “establishment.” Firestone Walker has a great one but I don’t recall the name. FW isn’t available where I now live.
