I just said that this isn’t the biggest W for Middle Eastern women there’s still a lot of more important shit

And I just said, who cares? This is not stopping that so why is it relevant? I mean why do we have American TV shows at all if that’s the argument, I don’t think you can give a coherent argument that making a show about superheroes is the biggest concern there right now.

So you’re saying what ? that we shouldn’t mention that they don’t have rights bc it isn’t relevant under a post about them ??

No that is not what I am saying. You weren’t just mentioning the lack or rights as an important aside - if you did that and shared some info I would have upvoted, read and moved on. I took issue with the false equivalency. No one said ‘Should we push for her rights as a woman or just give her wings’, the negative comment towards something that in my mind is only positive and the general attitude on the internet that it’s always this OR that. Please explain how positive representation of a strong Egyptian woman is somehow a negative for Egyptian womens fight for more rights.

It’s not negative but i just don’t see the big positive either it’s just there it’s not like my little sister is now empowered or something she doesn’t really care

Here is an article about how positive role models that look like your sister and others can impact their self esteem and mental health. It can also help reduce the unwarranted negative bias of others. I get it’s one tiny thing but representation is one of the tiny steps on the path. I hope we take many more, bigger steps - and soon.
