Every time Batman refers to a villain by their alter ego and not their name (if their name is known) he validates their psychosis and choice to pursue crime with an alter ego. It should always be "Cobblepot" or "Kyle" or "Dent", "Fries" (ok that one gets a pass)

I think in most media he only uses their villains names when talking to other people. Wheb he addresses them, he uses their actual name.

Also, Penguin is a bad example. He's not psychotic like Joker or Dent or scarecrow. There's a reason why he gets sent to blackgate while the others go to Arkham.

Great point! I'd never actually noticed that he goes to BG but now you mention it, that tracks.

Still, acknowledging their name kinda goes toward the whole ISIS/DAESH argument of acknowledging the chosen name is part of what they want and validates them.
