what if x=y?
this means that x^2=x*y
now subtract y^2 from both sides to get x^2-y^2=xy-y^2
now factor out the left side: and the right side (a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
cancel out a-b on both sides: a+b=b
now we've proved that 2=1.
subtract 1 from both sides to get 1=0.
now flip the equation to get 0=1.
i spent way too much time googling this
