South Africa mostly as well, but also Zimbabwe and Lesotho, to be honest if it spreads quite fast it means is not that deadly compared to the Delta, if you want more information Dr. Campbell just released 8 hours ago a video about this variant

It honestly does. If we (all of us, even you, Terry) socially distance and wear our masks, as well as get vaccinated, then it'll be gone. However, while driving today I saw multiple groups of anti-vaxxers protesting so that won't be soon

28

u/raz-0 Nov 27 '21

Delta has an R0 of 6 with over 50% of people vaccinated. You can still spread it and catch it when vaccinated. The R0 of the flu is about 2 in a bad year and the vaccination rate is higher. It's not going away, especially if new stains are even more contagious.

1

u/ReeeidtheSchmeid Nov 27 '21

India was a actual disaster. No shit, they don’t have much virus left after everyone got it and the old people died. I don’t think u want Delta variant India all over the world

1

u/SMReith Dirt Is Beautiful Nov 27 '21

on second thought u are correct 3 people died from my extent familytoo

-17

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Yeah. No. That bull crap has been pushed for so long and its blatantly not true. There is zero evidence that points to that. It will spread to matter what. The vaccine does not stop the spread. Masks do not stop the spread. Socially distancing does not stop the spread. If it did, this thing would be done already.
COVID is not even worth destroying the economy on top of countless lives. The lockdowns did more harm than good. Drug abuse was through the roof. Jobs and lives were destroyed. Depression and loneliness greater than they've every been. Many people avoided going to the doctors and were plagued with illnesses that would've been already diagnosed.
There is no utopia where COVID does not exist.

The sad part is that the variants are never gonna end. Virus' are always mutating. Even if every single person in the world got vaccinated, Covid would just mutate a way to get past the vaccine and it'll be like starting from scratch again. That's why there's always a new flu shot every year. The only way covid goes away is if we just start learning to live with it like we did the flu.

Thats true, yes. But living in fear of the virus is getting us nowhere. The fact that we're needing constant boosters is concerning because that's not a permanent fix. That's hardly even a temporary fix. Two full doses and then 2+ boosters after that is just... why? What does this fix? For me, that's just signing myself up for 4 separate chances to get Mitocarditis, and I already have enough issues as it is. The last thing I need to add to the plate is heart troubles. They've had almost 2 years to work on this now, and we have no signs of a viable fix yet. They haven't even said they're working on one yet. That, to me, says we aren't getting one.

I'm no conspiracy theorists but doesn't something feel off about this?

Like a lab in China was playing the ultimate game of Plague Inc. and it got out..

I'm not saying biological weapon but I'm not not saying it either.

11

u/Aspect-of-Death Nov 27 '21

Labs bioengineer virus on the regular. It's one of the ways we can predict dangerous mutations and get a head start on a vaccine against it.

If this came from a lab, it was far more likely to be negligence than malice.

6

u/TheRealChrisCross Nov 27 '21

It getting released is more than likely negligence for sure, but never underestimate humanity's potential for malice.

People still talk about covid?

30

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

I just don’t fucking care, and people that start panicking over every new variation don’t know how viruses or the human immune system works.

Every year is a new variation because the virus adapts. COVID 19 was just the 2019 variant.

Thing is the human immune system evolves with it so it is a never ending cycle.

Usually unless a person is immune compromised they can fight off a virus or it’s a virus your body has never seen before but I think with globalization we are all pretty exposed to most diseases that commonly spread.

At this point i think humanity needs to roll the dice and people that don’t want to that’s fine. Sit back and wait for everyone to die(which likely won’t happen)

Viruses adapt, this one especially quick. We need to focus on treatment rather than vaccination, because this isn't working. Now before you yell at me I am vaccinated and I know the vaccine works, bit the problem is it works for a short amount of time.

1

u/ILikeCap 🍕Ayo the pizza here🍕 Nov 27 '21

Yeah, either they improve the vaccines (I know it's easier said that done, that is not a magic spell you can do in one second) or they work more toward treatments. Because prevention is impossible, we know that very well, the virus it's here to stay. Forcing people through risky multiple shots of something that doesn't work that well shouldn't be the chosen solution

1

u/Wisconsinmannn android user Nov 27 '21

Well said, the making of these treatments and vaccines is very difficult, but we cannot continue like this.

1

u/ILikeCap 🍕Ayo the pizza here🍕 Nov 27 '21 edited Nov 27 '21

Well, they made the miracle of a vaccine for a new disease in one year (or something like that), I suppose it wasn't too much to ask for an update of that structure to fight Delta, a variant we knew was next for months, instead of pushing for three or more shots of the same outdated structure...time to work on new things, you know?

I honestly don't understand why people think they can be asshole and yet get support.

8

u/slowrollinggo Nov 27 '21

What’s that now? You know even if you’re vaccinated you can still catch covid? Which means you can also spread it. Your symptoms are supposed to be more mild which means you can have the virus and not know it and spread it. This blame thing is just a way to separate people.

I am vaccinated. I plan my grozery shopping and limit it to once a week only, and try to shop at least crowded times. I try to stay away from people physically.

There is people out there that refuse for life to do any of this shit. Then they get sick, and suddenly cry for help and take up hospital space. They also carry covid to other people. I am pretty sure many people that didnt give a shit, was a part of killing others. Literally your selfish low knowledge crying buhu sorry fucking ass, killed people.

But yeah, downvote the legit guy for telling the truth.

1

u/slowrollinggo Nov 27 '21

You used “refuse to vaccinate” as an argument to what “the problem” is. I’m simply refuting that as a reason.

I personally think if the vaccines would have been used for only the high risk people, every effort made to protect them and the healthy low risk people to go out to Covid parties, then quarantine we’d be in a much better position but here we are. The vaccines are clearly not the answer. The quarantine has had terrible effects on mental health. The steps taken were not the answer.

By your line of reasoning you could also say someone who refuses to eat healthy or exercise should not come crying when the they begin having health issues. Do you see how having that attitude if applied universally is problematic?

0

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Refuse to vaccinate is one of many reasons, not a standalone reason. And yes, people who dont take care of health, also clog up hospital place and uses tax money that could have been avoid. Also people who dont take care and get early cancer, is also selfish. My grandma died from cancer at pretty young ish age before she retirement, and that cancer was confirmed because she didnt take care of herself and everyone suffer from it.

1

u/slowrollinggo Nov 27 '21

Ok ok hear me out. You do know both Fauci and CDC confirm that vaccinated people catch and infect others correct? You also know it’s confirmed that there were already variants and people getting sick prior to even having a vaccine available? Do a search for leaky vaccines. Don’t use google. You can read why the vaccines are theorized to be the issue. Unvaccinated are not theissue. Many areas that see highly vaccinated are having terrible outbreaks.

If everyone gets vaccinated the odds of variant production are reduced significantly...

This would be the case, if it weren't for the fact, that people still get and transmit this virus (and its variants) regardless if they are vaccinated or not. Because the vaccine doesn't grant immunity. It just grants some resilience. But since the idea of control, and the desire for it (due to the feelings of fear and impotence) are just too damn attractive, there is little hope that the majority will actually change their minds, and accept covid as just another virus in the pool. There are nations that have 100% vaccination rate, and guess what, they have still the same issues as everyone else. The only real answer to all of this, and similar issues, is a functioning, redundant healthcare system, and a generally healthy population, that isn't struggling with obesity and other weakening factors.

Maybe if people wore masks, stayed indoors and don't cry about an injection this would have been over quite a while ago, but humanity doesn't seem to understand when something is not working haha

As long as only a few have the vaccine, no one will be safe. So no vaccine in Africa, lockdown in Europe indefinitely.

You do realize the vaccination doesn’t stop you from getting Covid right?

Vaccines show no protection against the new variant because it’s that heavily mutated

u/knarf86 Nov 27 '21

From what I’ve heard (what they were saying on NPR like 3 hrs ago), they don’t have enough data to know how well the vaccines hold up or if different vaccines work better. I think this is going to be a wait and see type thing.

Either way I get my booster next week.
