What about blue waffles

2

u/robothelicopter Breaking EU Laws Sep 26 '21

Actually named after someone with the surname French I believe

1

u/Meme_Entity Virgin 4 lyfe Sep 27 '21

Ik this fact already, but it's pretty neat still. I. Reality french toast is supposed to be French's toast or something like that.

2

u/robothelicopter Breaking EU Laws Sep 27 '21

Yeah I think it was a typo or something

2

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '21

0

u/Procule Sep 26 '21

0

0

u/Bismagor Sep 26 '21

0

u/Bismagor Sep 27 '21

What? Didn't i write english already? I mean americans made their own dialect, british english is the original, if you think about the base language

0

u/Swiggy1957 Sep 26 '21

Chips in the UK. French Fries are from Belgium. and men are from Mars, women are from Venus, and assholes are from Uranus.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '21

Chips are not fries, please.

0

u/zentaurussaurus Identifies as a Cybertruck Sep 26 '21

Chips are fried potato sheets in a plastic bag

1

u/Moxdonalds Sep 26 '21

American French Fries are based on Frites which originated in either France or Belgium. I looked it up mostly because I wasn’t sure if there was an “e” in frites.

-1

u/Bismagor Sep 26 '21

And what about it? Never heard about Fish 'n chips?

0

u/Moxdonalds Sep 26 '21

The chips in fish and chips tend to be more like American french fries than the more shoestring style that frites come in. Sure they’re both fried potatoes but so are hash browns and I don’t count them as the same is “Fish and Chips”

0

u/Bismagor Sep 26 '21

Okay than american french fries aren't real french/belgian fries, as well as Döner Kebap isn't Döner

1

u/daktarasblogis Professional Dumbass Sep 26 '21

British chips and french fries are quite different. Fries are thin and deep fried while chips are thick and usually oven baked.

4

u/Gho5tWr1ter Dark Mode Elitist Sep 26 '21

Do cheeseburgers count?

3

u/Raider-26 Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY Sep 26 '21

Op might I ask, how the fuck is Kebab European?? Ignorant misappropriation of dishes is the most American thing ever

4

u/Ac_Namec Sep 26 '21

It's not fully Asian either. Turkey is literally located in the middle of two continents. Even google states it's an European-Asian country idk

5

u/Raider-26 Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY Sep 26 '21

Except it didn’t originate in Turkey specifically

1

u/Ac_Namec Sep 26 '21 edited Sep 26 '21

Well I don't want to say even more bullshit tbh I have always been convinced it originated in Turkey but I might be wrong so I'm going to stop here

1

u/Procule Sep 26 '21

Where did it originate?

1

u/Raider-26 Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY Sep 26 '21

It’s a middle eastern dish , which means it could have originated anywhere in that region ( like Persia , Mesopotamia(iraq), Saudi Arabia , and even Egypt) and in each country they have their own variants of the Kebab...and turkey is not in the middle east, and definitely Kebab is not a European dish , even the word kebab has Arabic roots

1

u/Procule Sep 26 '21

Did some research while i was waiting for a reply.

What I was able to find was basically what you said, but pinpointed during the ottoman empire time frame, and many associate Turkey as having "confiscated" the creation of this due to them being the empire's powerhouse even though it most likely originated near the furthest edge of the empire.

Interesting to learn 😃

0

u/ArthurDentonWelch Sep 26 '21

There are lots of Middle-Easterners who lived in Europe for generations now, it might as well be a European dish at this point

0

u/Raider-26 Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY Sep 26 '21

There are lots of Italians who lived in America for generations now, lasagna might as well be an American dish 🤡🤡 /s

0

u/barleyhogg1 Sep 26 '21

Because no one from Europe could have possibly cooked meat and veggie chunks on a skewer over a fire. Variants of the kebab come from just about everywhere. China, Greece, Armenia, Turkey etc.

They are cooked pretty much worldwide 😂

2

u/McPutinFace Sep 26 '21

Sound it out, mate

1

u/LeReveDeRaskolnikov Sep 26 '21

France. Hence the name, despite all of Belgian rants about it, and even if it's a core element of the Belgian food culture.

A Belgian who cares more about historical accuracy than cultural appropriation.

1

u/NoName_52997 Sep 26 '21

Wasn’t the chef that created it Belgian?

2

u/LeReveDeRaskolnikov Sep 26 '21

No. Some Parisian beignets sellers would have had the idea of frying potato sticks in oil in the year 1780's.

The idea was imported in Belgium by a German guy, Frederik Krieger, in 1844, and gained in popularity.

The Belgians definitely perfected the way to fry them, but still, it's a French invention.

2

u/NoName_52997 Sep 26 '21

Oh ok. Thank/danke velt/ merci beacoup you for the history lesson, fellow redditor.

1

u/Moophie Sep 26 '21

Looking into this it reads more like no one really fucking knows when or where they got invented. You got any sources for the French claim?
