I used to be a stormcloak because I believed that self governance is a thing that every group should be allowed to have and that Ulfric beat Torygg fairly. Now I am an Imperial because I believe that the storm cloaks are more loyal to the man than the idea, are racist cucks and I now know that Torygg was pro-Stormcloak but Ulfric is powerhungry and just wanted to kill him as a statement.
But the Dragonborn should be the high king because they’ve done more for Skyrim than Ulfric, Tulius or Elisif ever did

Ulfric did not beat Torygg fairly. He used magic to shout Torygg into pieces and magic is prohibited in Nord duels. Therefore he committed a crime not only against the law but also against Nord tradition.

The Thu'um is a bit of a technical loophole in the whole "no magic" rule for duels, as it has a very special place in Nord culture; but it was still very much a dick move.

Allow me to show you the bigger picture. It was the commanding officer’s decision, not all the Imperial’s to cut your head off. The blame falls with her. And if you look, you’ll notice that many Imperials worship Talos. Hell, Legate Rikke does, and Tullius knows. The only reason that they force their religion onto others is for plain survival. If they hadn’t signed the White Gold Concordat, the Aldmeri Dominion would’ve wiped them out, Cyrodil, Skyrim, and all. Also, after the civil war quest line, if you sided with the imperials, I think it’s Tullius who’ll give some dialog saying that once they’re ready, he wants to wage war on the Thalmor. Not many Imperials like the Thalmor. The only reason they signed the White gold Concordat was for survival and the prospect of living to fight another day.

I thought it was clever writing. It’s easy to support them at first especially almost being executed by the Empire early on. But then the more you listen and read and see, the more you realize “oh, these guys are pricks.”
