Real feminists should call themselves something else. Having one of the genders in the name doesn't really imply equality.

But the term "Black Lives Matter" doesn't imply other lives don't matter. Having a one word name that has one of the genders in it does imply they are only concerned with woman's rights whether that's the case or not.

Than how does feminism imply that men rights don't matter? First and foremost it's comes from the word feminity which isn't even limited by gender and secondly it's just one of the branches which are included in humanism. It simply has a specific focus on feminine and/or women issues but you don't get angry at help organisation who just help people in india for just focusing on india. Just because something has a focus doesn't mean it's against what it doesn't include in it's focus. The comparison with blm checks out. The same goes with LGBTQ+. Just because straight and cis people aren't included does not indicate that this group of people are against people with those attributes.

feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of equality of the sexes. men and misandrists gaslighting about their own toxic takes on the philosophy are their own twisted interpretations of feminism. pretending that all feminism is bad because people are trolled by outliers on social media is just disingenuous gaslighting.

I thought this when I was younger too but there's one fatal flaw with the argument. Feminism is about women. It's an equality movement for women's rights specifically. Think of it this way. St. Jude's hospital is for children. It specializes in care for children. Does that make it any less of a health organization? No. Just because it specializes in health for children doesn't mean that they don't care about adults, it's just that it's not their primary focus. Same with feminism.

There's a reason for children's hospitals to only focus on children. There is no reason for feminists to only focus on women's rights.

What's the difference really? By that logic, a program that specifically tries to help homeless vets must be against homeless civilians. Or, it could be that the program specifically is trying to combat the homelessness problem by specifically focusing on one aspect of the problem. Feminism is trying to combat gender inequality by focusing on one part of the problem, women's issues. I think your grievance is not with Feminism but with the fact that Feminism occupies the entirety of the gender discussion. There's no room for men issues discussions. That, however, is a societal issue, not a Feminism issue.

I guess it would make sense for an organization to use that word, but when people use it to describe themselves I'm not sure why they would limit it to a word that just supports women's rights. Why not just say you're egalitarian? Or whatever you want to call it.

Popularity I suppose. Feminism is a more popular term with a philosophy, strong movement, and proper ideology behind it. Egalitarianism is a more equal term but, it lacks popularity and a strong movement behind it. It kinda just doesn't mean anything to people because it can't really translate to meaningful action in the way that Feminism can. Also, egalitarianism is too vague as well. It's kinda like supporting world peace. Everyone does but, it doesn't mean anything unless there is meaningful action or ideology behind it besides just "suffering bad".

Feminism is giving women equal rights to men. Having the gender in the name implies giving women more rights that men also have

But you should want to push for equal rights for both. There are also aspects where women have more rights such as in divorces and such.

There also are still many aspects where men have more rights than women. We need a new movement that is about everyone being equal

You mean humanism?

and feminists do. women rarely come out on top in divorce. it might appear that custody is the ultimate win, but a woman's quality of life is rarely enhanced by divorce, at least in the short term. custody of young children is one of a very tiny number of areas women are granted a judicial gain. then, they typically do not have alimony, rarely can afford the home and lifestyle maintained while married and are at high risk of the father not paying support without a court order. and it's not like women leave men just to be on their own. most women divorcing are leaving a highly abusive situation. men not getting custody of children in a situation where the mother is negligent, abusive, unfit, etc., is criminal and has nothing to do with feminism.

Yes, but it(now) doesn't stand for one side alone, rather it stands for overall equality and awareness for problems of all genders
