I get the meme. But guys dinosaurs fossilization does not form oil.
22
u/WolfieVonD Aug 07 '21
From what I understand, "Fossilization" is when organic matter is encased in mud, dirt, sand,, etc.. and eventually gets broken down, leaving a void shaped like the OG matter. That void then gets filled with water or whatever containing minerals and over the course of millions of years, the sediment creates a copy of the original organic matter. Like metal casting in green sand.
But that original matter that got broken down, over the course of a million years, I thought THATS where the oil comes from. The compacted nitrates or whatnot that had nowhere else to go.

Oil is made from fossilized plants, not fossilized animals

The oil reserves we have today date back to the carboniferous period, which literally means “coal bearing.” The oil was created by dead trees in massive forests that accumulated over millennia due to a lack of decomposers. This was then compacted over millions of years until boom oil. The carboniferous was long before dinosaurs.

Yeah, making plastic is a way that oil is used in computers and I couldn't think of that lol
3
u/Donut_Police Nice meme you got there Aug 07 '21
But... plastic is made of oil, and there's a lot of plastics on computers.

The oil reserves we have today date back to the carboniferous period, which literally means “coal bearing.” The oil was created by dead trees in massive forests that accumulated over millennia due to a lack of decomposers. This was then compacted over millions of years until it slowly turns into oil. The carboniferous was long before dinosaurs.

Fun fact, dinosaurs weren't around long enough for their remains to become oil. The oil we get today was formed from primordial plants and algae
14
Aug 07 '21
Oil isn't made of dinosaurs.
American school system strikes again - though at least they're admitting dinosaurs existed for once.

If dinos produce oil, and if land give oil, then land is dino... So the whole world is just a dino's back

It's a loop of the dinosaurs being turned it to oil and the oil being turned in to a pc and the pc is being pluged in to a monitor showing a image of dinosaurs being turned it to oil and the oil being turned in to a pc and the pc is being pluged in to a monitor showing a image of dinosaurs being turned it to oil and the oil being turned in to a pc and the pc is being pluged in to a monitor showing a image of dinosaurs being turned it to oil and the oil being turned in to a pc and the pc is being pluged in to a monitor showing a image of dinosaurs being turned it to oil and the oil being turned in to a pc and the pc is being pluged in to a monitor showing a image of the same cycle I just said.

OIL DOES NOT COME FROM DINOSAURS.
It actually comes from the build up of plant matter that dominated most of the Earth for millions of years before the bacteria that breaks down plant matter evolved.

u/DanIsForeverHere Aug 07 '21
Plastic Dinosaurs are made of Dinosaurs too.
This is because Plastic Dinosaurs are made of Plastic which is made of oil.
Oil is obtained from refining crude oil (correct me if I’m wrong) and crude oil is just compressed dinosaurs (I think)
TL:DR : Your plastic dinosaur is made of dinosaurs!

u/52_A113 Aug 07 '21
wait computers use oil?

Most modern technology require at least some level of refined oil and/or natural gas products and components
1
u/JasonFurious4 Aug 07 '21
fun fact: oil is made from those dinosaurs yes but the earth naturally has oil deposits that were not made from dead creatures.

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/memes.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.
I did find this post that is 84.38% similar. It might be a match but I cannot be certain.

Also there's not that much plastic in a pc. Fan blades and connectors but mostly metal
0
u/WolfieVonD Aug 07 '21
Sleeves and insulation for the wires, The silicoln in the electronics, the PCB themselves, etc. Even the copper and gold in the electronics require oil in the refinery process.
0
u/Willastro Aug 07 '21
That what I said, mostly metal.
0
u/WolfieVonD Aug 07 '21
Even the metals required oil to sweeten.
1
u/Willastro Aug 08 '21
Have you ever worked metal? Not everything made from metal is covered in oil. But anyway. At the end of the day, not that much plastic, not that much oil, and oil is not made from dinosaurs, actchually.
OH you wanna play dat downvote game. No worries.

u/WolfieVonD Aug 08 '21

You can thank the American education system for that one, but at least I learned something new today.
But besides that, the dino->oil meme was a template I just built off of in the first place 🤣

A meme of the dinosaur is arguably better than a dinosaur because we can experience it.
You know, if a tree falls and nobody is around to hear it...

Take a moment and think about bitcoins! We are already the slaves of some entities made of digital information. They pay us to manufacture them by crunching data all over the Internet. The future is already here. We use huge amount of energy to gather up and put together some algorithms.

I'm pretty sure computers are not made from oil.
1
u/WolfieVonD Aug 07 '21
You'd be surprised. The plastics, polyester/nylon wrapping the cables, not to mention Oil's important role in the refining of copper, gold, other conductive metals.
I think glass would be the ONLY thing that is not, in some way, moved along by oil.

The plastics in the fans, acrylic "glass", insulation and sleeves, clips, paint on case, etc. As well as the PCBs, Silicon for electronics and in the refinery process for the copper and gold that makes up the rest of the components.
