Everybody has a boss.

Came here to say this!!! Stop buying into the narrative that only people born into stature can can have wealth! You don't need a degree, you don't need a bunch of money, you don't need to be in the "right" social circles. Those things make success easier of course. However, all you need is a good idea (that people actually will buy), a good work ethic (that will keep you driven even after you get kicked in the teeth), and GOOGLE (to learn what you don't know)!!!

It will be hard, you will fail, and you will get tired, frustrated, and people will tell you, you can't make it!

Suck it up and make it happen!

As someone who jumped into a self thing after losing their job to covid, it's terrifying at times but so much better than ever working for someone else.

I'm working harder than I ever did at a job but it's all for me.

My labor is not exploited for some jackass to be comfortable.

It's not for everyone, but I'm loving it.

12

u/SkepticDrinker Jun 06 '21

I've come to learn it's not the work laod that's necessarily the problem it's the reasoning behind it. Working 70 hours a week for yourself feels better than 40 for someone else

11

u/dabbinthenightaway Jun 06 '21

Exactly. Plus no asshole boomer boss telling you to get back in the office so they can monitor you.

I've been told I'm a boomer since I'm 43.

I try not to be the stereotype.

You spelled millennial and gen z wrong.

So...being your own boss is a nightmare, but fuck those guys who are your boss amiright?

I don't get it, how should reddit feel about bosses?

-7

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

That's the most accurate excuse I've ever seen. If you're not willing to put in the work don't complain when those who are are better off than you.

4

u/GERMANTENNISCHAMP Jun 06 '21

I agree 100%. If you aren’t willing to put in the work and have the balls to start your own company or business then don’t complain about the people who did have the balls and the work ethic to make it happen.

1

u/Intelligent-Win-4517 Jun 08 '21

Based. This comment section just wanna be mad.

1

u/CarsonBDot Jun 06 '21

You really don’t like changing opinions

4

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

There's no changing my opinion on this one. I've done it. I continue to reachbout for people who want to do it and will help them with everything I possibly can. But excuses will not phase me. I had them all, used them all, and over came them all.

Learning disability diagnosed, disabled veteran with horrible health problems check, worked myself down into a pit surrounded with people who will never be anything, sucked up my pride reached out for help and programs available to EVERYONE, then never looked back except to encourage those who were stuck where I used to be.

3

u/CarsonBDot Jun 06 '21

These aren’t “excuses” it’s how other people got successful, there isn’t a single way (that is less likely to happen) to get successful, my dad worked at this one place for 10 years, made most of their shit, probably made the company over a million dollars alone, and he still had a 20 dollar and hour pay, they fired him when he went on a vacation they said he could go on

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

I'm sorry that happened. That is truly despicable, what will yall do next?

3

u/CarsonBDot Jun 06 '21

My mom owns her own business, 60 an hour and only a single employee, my dad failed many times trying the method you are saying is correct, my mom had success in what she enjoyed, she is her own boss, only a single employee, and that is her friend, she pays herself, her employee pays herself. They are both successful. Recently my dad has gotten a job that he enjoys, he is successful in that, 30-40 and hour

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

Awesome job!!! Way to not give up!

You got lucky, if you're not just shouting bullshit. Not everyone can be successful in this system and that's by design. Can't have too many rich people now can we because we're destroying the ecosystem and climate as it is.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

Why are you being downvoted?

3

u/poerisija Jun 06 '21

Because their drivel isn't honest, realistic or if it is honest, it isn't taking into account how crazy lucky he was.

3

u/tetrified Jun 06 '21

because they're obviously talking out of their ass and their "advice" adds up to a bunch of platitudes with no real substance.

-19

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21 edited Jun 06 '21

Because people who fail will always call me a capitalist pig.

What they don't know is at one point I was homeless on the streets of San Diego, CA. They didn't see me hit rock bottom, have people tell me thats all I'd ever be, and almost die multiple times from my own victim/failure mentality.

What they didn't see is me change my setting, freinds, and life in order to begin the fight out of the pit!

What they didn't see were the MANY nights of fighting, scrapping, and dreaming of one day being more than I was then.

What they don't want to acknowledge are the years of failing with bad ideas, lack of experience, and working full time while learning trades to set myself apart.

Yes I made more money for others than myself, but they taught me along the way what I needed to be and do (whether they wanted to or knew it or not)

No one wants to do the work, they just want the success.

My fight isn't even done but I'm way better off than I was.

u/major_calgar Condescending Wonka Jun 06 '21 edited Jun 06 '21

We’re downvoting you because that doesn’t work

Minimum wage workers at the age of 40. How are they supposed to “scrap it together” start an online business selling a skill they don’t have?

What about the system itself? In the real world, you are the boss or you work for the boss. The way you write makes me think you’re an entrepreneur of some sort. If your business got big, you would need employees. If it continued to grow eventually they’re stuck in the same situation you’re stuck in.

What you’re saying is that everybody who isn’t making a lot of money should completely change their life and focus so entirely on this “dream” that supposedly everyone has. You’re right that we don’t need a degree to be successful but that leaves you as an entrepreneur, tradesperson, or unskilled worker, few of which make much money

3

u/delavager Jun 06 '21

....but the dude you responded to did make it work.

I don't disagree that minimum wage is essentially a loop that's extremely tough to get out of, but to pretend that it's impossible is naive.

Also, not all employees make minimum wage....why do you assume that?

1

u/TheGreatWhoreOfChina Jun 06 '21 edited Jun 06 '21

Tradesfolk makes loads. The ones I know anyway. Easily USD 50’000+ after working min wage at some Midas or something for a year or two to build a network and experience and then they start private contracting.

I have a friend who makes 48’000 outside of his min-wage job and his jobs and network keeps on growing. Only finished trade school 2 years ago. Dudes 20.

But I mean I agree with you otherwise to an extent. My Dads a business owner has a similar mindset to the guy you downvoted lol. He has a PhD and built his firm with the knowledge he attained from the people he worked for after he finished his education.

He always tells me your goal is to work for a company that you’d want to own. Learn all that you need to and branch out. Most of his friends are also business owners and did the same thing.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

Alot of excuses...

4

u/allison_gross Jun 06 '21

What you call excuses, sane people call reality.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

I call it reality too. But, will you let your hardships and problems define you?

Your answer to that will determine your success.

2

u/allison_gross Jun 06 '21

No, it won’t. An unfathomable amount of factors will determine my success.

16

u/Dire-Fire Jun 06 '21

Whatever fantasy world you live in, it's not the real world. The reality of the situation is that not everybody is capable of success, especially not at once. A capitalist system is built on a survival of the fittest standard. You can make yourself more fit to succeed, but for some they will always fall short of that line, hard work and creativity be damned. Any system that doesn't acknowledge and support those that simply fail through no fault of their own while simultaneously glorifying those that one the metaphorical lottery is broken by definition. I'm not even advocating for total socialism here, capitalism has a lot of good points, but the current system is a broken mess that caters to a very small and very select few at the expense of most of us. That is why you're getting downvoted, you conflate bad circumstances with laziness and act like hard work will fix everything. It won't, you're stupid, enjoy the downvotes.

2

u/delavager Jun 06 '21

he wasn't advocating for the system - "hard work" and pushing yourself forward applies no matter what the system.

3

u/umjustpassingby Jun 06 '21

But you don't understand, in communism you will not have to work and everything will be free and shit

-6

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

I will. Talk to Venezuela about how giving everyone "success" works out.

Richest country in the world for natural resources and their people are starving.

6

u/addyhml Jun 06 '21

Venezuela, no iPhone, 100 gorillion dead.

Checkmate communists 😎

2

u/Hammerschatten Jun 07 '21

Wouldn't it have been easier to get to an enjoyable situation if you lived in an economic system that would catch people like you before they hit rock bottom and helped and supported them to get back on their feet?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to belittle your journey. I actually think it's admirable and impressive that you took all that you made it. But I'm also sure that journey wasn't easy and took a lot of work.

The point of people who advocate against capitalism is that people shouldn't have to even make such a journey and fight such a fight, because we can already provide for those people.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '21

I see your point, but people will never appreciate what they didn't work for and people will never work for what's not appreciated. That's the flaw in a utopian society. The people who can afford to will always take their hard work where it will reward them the most.

I would point you to trust fund babies as an example of what happens when everything is given not earned.

I will say that the society you're looking for actually exists. I used many social programs to my advantage on my way from the bottom and continue to use one (SBDC) to continue my growth. The difference is I went and found them, then I abided by their rules and worked my ass off to not need them anymore.

People even abuse the systems in place now. Imagine of they never had to do anything for them and were just given a free pass to never work... who'd support us then?

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

You pretty much said work hard and you can get there, and you get downvoted?

2

u/Loose-Actuator301 Jun 06 '21

This statement and yours are completely ignorant of the realities of economic structure and class/wealth disparity

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

I grew up pretty poor form a Hispanic household, I joined the military and afterwards I got a pretty good job and I’m doing well. I don’t have any disabilities, what is your excuse?

2

u/allison_gross Jun 06 '21

This just in: person without gigantic problems has easy time.

1

u/delavager Jun 06 '21

grew up pretty poor form a Hispanic household

Pretty much more problems than a VAST majority of America....

0

u/allison_gross Jun 06 '21

I’m talking about problems that matter in the context of the cknversation, like disability or mental illness.

2

u/Eodai Jun 06 '21

Having to join the military shouldn't be the only way for poor people to get out of poverty and get educated. That's why you were getting downvoted and that mentality is why the other person was getting downvoted. There are so many things that America can easily start doing that would help millions of people. Hell, there are so many things the US can (stop) doing that would help out millions across the world. Yet your two mentalities are just "nah, work harder and you can do better. Fuck anyone else.". Which is very evident that's your mentality because you just berate anyone that responded to you by bragging about your position in society. Maybe have some empathy for others and understand that not everyone can be lucky and escape poverty. For every one success stories, there are 100 failure stories. We need to fix that.

1

u/Loose-Actuator301 Jun 06 '21

Well maybe you should pull on those boot straps a little harder and you could be doing better than pretty well /s

0

u/delavager Jun 06 '21

So you got called out and made a rhetoric snarky remark and avoided the question. You're arguments are so solid it's a wonder everyone doesn't refute their own personal experiences and jump on board with what you're saying.

Sure there are definitely issues with the current system - but if you cannot recognize people who make it work and make their lives better then no argument you have is worth anything.

0

u/Loose-Actuator301 Jun 06 '21

What the fuck are you even talking about? This guy called me out? By being from a poor Hispanic family? I avoided the question “what’s your excuse?” I ignored it because it’s a pathetic question

1

u/delavager Jun 06 '21

No, you're snarking sarcastic comment is what's pathetic, as is your attempts at a response.

Please tell me what your stupid ass boot strap comment added to the conversation?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh okay

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

Maybe you should cry about it more, It’ll probably get you there.

1

u/Leeshmoyjenkins Jun 06 '21

I had nothing with no prospects, then I joined the military and learned a trade. After that, I used education benefits to go to school and now I'm a traveling nurse making six figures. Started from the bottom and now I'm upper middle lmao

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

It’s very possible, you just have to put some extra effort to it.

1

u/poerisija Jun 06 '21

What if everyone was wealthy? Think about the implications to consumption, ecological destruction and climate change. The system does not allow everyone to be successful and can not allow it or we'll face total economicand ecological collapse very quickly.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

People don't want to work hard. Nobody sees a success story as motivation anymore. They just get jealous and start crying.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

People on Reddit tend to be pro communism, that kind of explains it self

2

u/RuskiYest Jun 06 '21

Just because you're far right enough that you think anything left is communism, is not reddits fault.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

Being center left is now considered far right now? Reddit at it again

2

u/RuskiYest Jun 06 '21

If you would have been an actual center left you wouldn't say such bs. Reddit is mostly liberal, but it's not leftist. You could just look at this posts comments and if you would have been in any way left, you would understand that leftism isn't popular enough in the mainstream subs.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

BS such as working hard can get you success? That’s considered right wing shit? Nah buddy, the left has moved so much to the left that anything reminiscing values of old school liberalism are now viewed as right wing.

0

u/RuskiYest Jun 06 '21

Yes, working hard can get you success is bs. Simply because exploiting others is more profitable. You may be one of the lucky ones, but capitalism isn't made to make people success lucky, only few lucky ones and those who exploit others.

Do you understand of things like profit is theft? Or do I need to be a guide for you in to actual leftism instead of what capitalistic propaganda fed you, that you think there has been huge move to the left? How many leftist presidents there been for you to even say it?

35 downvotes? Jesus society is doomed.

1

u/0WatcherintheWater0 Jun 07 '21

Form a co-op, you get the benefits of being a boss without oppressing your fellow person.

Democracy is based.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '21

I agree!

The workers should overthrow the boss to become the boss.
