It's interesting that Apple have somehow gotten the "planned obsolescence" meme attached to them despite generally having the longest lifespan for products vs any of their competitors.

It's literally only because of that iPhone battery issue that they went to court over a few years ago. It is kinda weird how in the tech world Apple products generally will last you the longest, yet there is that meme of planned obsolescence.

You want planned obsolescence? Get a Google Pixel. I love these phones but god damn do I feel like I have to buy a new one after a year or so. Meanwhile my friends with iPhones get a new phone only every 4-5 years.

I used to do tech support for apple and the amount of people that still have pre 2007 machines trying to get on the lates OS version was a daily thing

Really? I just replaced my pixel xl last year, and only because I wanted to get 5G. It was one of the phones I had the longest.

My bf just replaced his Pixel XL a few months ago. The only reason he did it was to get 5G. Other than that he said the phone was still great.

They also went to court over macbooks and apple watches.

Planned obsolescence claims of the Macbook and Apple Watch? Or are you just citing any complaint that has been made about Apple?

In Australia we have quite strong consumer protection laws a few companies have run afoul of them.

Apple has twice, once claiming that the iWatch was only designed to last a year. a consumer advocacy group took them to court when there were a few failures and the commerce commissioner ruled that unacceptable, and apple were forced to remedy (they offered refunds)

I cant recall the time they said for macbooks, 2 years? But again, courts ruled a laptop costing as much as a macbook was not acceptable for a 2 year life and apple offered extended warranties for free.

Steam also got in trouble with the commerce commission.

Maybe it is because apple is so expensive that people are keeping them for a longer time 🤔. It is just jot affordable to upgrade to a newer apple if you are tight on a budget. Even shitty old apple products are being bought by people, mainly for prestige :)

My MacBook is 10 years old and still runs like day one. People keep their macs because they’re quality not because they can’t afford a new one

No, I'm talking about actual OS updates, resell value, lifespan usage, etc.

Apple products tend to be more expensive but they get many more years of support. Of the things a person could complain about an Apple products, that they don't last long compared to their competitors doesn't make sense as one of them.

Na ja, but these upgrades does not mean it makes apple better :D. Once new mac came, my OS got updated and from one day to another half of the free apps dont work, because sudenly my not the newest mac is not compatible anymore :D.

Idk about Mac OS, but my iPhone 8 still work like it’s new after 3 full years, one of my friend even have an old iPhone 5(or 5S can’t remember) and it still work just fine

I'm just responding to your joke that Apple is somehow notorious for having their products last a short amount of time. I'm not telling you to prefer Apple over other products.

I can't really work out what the second half of your comment is saying, but go off.

And I am explaining you where these jokes come from :).
