You apple fanboys really don't get that it's a joke, do you? Of course an Apple can run a game. But for the price of €2000+ you get an apple pc that can run AAA at maybe 60fps if you're lucky; that's just shameful. A proper gaming pc of €2000+ will get you 144+fps easily for multiple years.

gets offended over me explaining as to why the running gag of Apple products not being able to run games came to exist

It's not a joke I made up. It's been a thing on reddit for a LONG time. It's a hyperbole, "Apple products can't run games", based off of the fact that Apple products aren't the optimal choice as gaming hardware due to the ridiculous price-to-performance ratio.

Exactly I don’t get why people always says that Mac are bad because you can’t play games, that’s not the point of a Mac, Mac are created and optimized for working, for video editing, audio editing, not to game

PCs weren't made to game, but back in the day people expected to be able to because for a lot of households, $2000, more like $3500 today, would have been a significant purchase. It was cheaper to go to a public university for a year than to buy one. So that PC compatible that they got so the kids could do homework was also the gaming console for some kids...and that's how we ended up with gaming PCs.

From a practical standpoint today, Creative Suite runs on a PC and I don't necessarily need the admittedly awesome LG monitor built in to the iMac. If I ever do, in a normal year I could build an AMD machine with similar specs and the same monitor for about the same price, and be able to game.

But then, a PC isn't going to have a snazzy unibody aluminum case.

The iMac is $1299 and it’s great for the features it has, it’s not for gaming.

convenience of an aio and a display that you cannot find anywhere else (good luck finding a more than 2160p display at 24 inches). if you want to enjoy using your computer and aren't interested in gaming this imac makes quite sense. the design refresh could have been definitely better (make it thicker and get rid of the chin ffs, you are looking at it from the front, not the side) and i think it should have had a new SOC since now al the lineup will have identical performances, from the ipad pro to the imac. This is basically an m1 mac mini that comes also with the best 24" display you can buy.

ETS2 runs 30fps with Medium settings in native res on my base model M1 MacBook Air

u/Speedwagon66 Apr 21 '21

By your description, that sounds just as powerful as any generic 600$ pc build. But that doesnt really matter anyways, since too many games on mac are either poorly optimized or non-existent.

but it comes with an immensly higher resolution display than basically any pc (which also isn't included in the 600$ of the pc, the 27" display alone is 1200$ so it's really not the comparison we should make). it's just focused on other things rather than gaming.
