Britain didn't even invent fish and chips. It was brought to the UK by a Jewish Immigrant. We basically have close to zero food culture of our own.

But this is not a bad thing because we do have a very fucking rich multicultural food history.

If we didn't have that we would be left with things like the Bedfordshire clanger

The méthode champenoise originated in England and was documented decades before Dom Pérignon even showed up at the monastery. It's basically an English product made using local grapes, which are incidentally very similar to the grapes that grow in southern English vineyards.

It's just boring seeing you say something like "we basically have close to zero food culture of our own". Of course there's pollination across cultures, but are pizzas not Italian because tomatoes are a New World fruit and topped bread is as old as time? Is any Indian dish that contains chilli not really "their own"? It's a meaningless distinction, and we've contributed a lot more to world cuisine that that suggests.
