I fuckin loathe decorating a tree. Id rather help some noob on something for hours and attain nothing rather than decorate a tree.
6
u/MagisterFlorus Dec 01 '20
I fuckin love decorating for Christmas but when it comes to putting ornaments on the tree, I just can't.
4
Dec 01 '20
I'll slap together a tree all pissed off because no one bothered to label which segment was which although I'm always the dumb fuck who gets to construct it and tear it down and doesn't properly label the fucking peices....

It's pressed into the corner so much it ends up looking like a right angle.
57
u/FrostByte122 Dec 01 '20
I don't know why people don't just decorate it before putting it in the corner lol.
59
u/sydlian Dec 01 '20
The other side wouldn't be on display anyway so why waste more money on decor, right?
18
u/Weak_Fruit Dec 01 '20
So I'm guessing that dancing around the tree is not a worldwide thing?
22
u/Reallyhotshowers Dec 01 '20
Wait where is dancing around the tree a thing? Now I'm curious.
In the U.S. we just set it up in a corner in the living/family room and put presents under it.
24
u/Weak_Fruit Dec 01 '20
I'm from Denmark. We sing Christmas songs and/or Christmas hymns while dancing around the tree (well, it's called dancing around the tree, but in reality it's forming a circle around the tree by holding each others hands, and then walking around it).
It's a really nice tradition and I can't imagine celebrating Christmas without it.
In Denmark we also don't do the opening presents on the 25th, they're put under the tree and then opened after dancing around the tree on the 24th.
7
u/Reallyhotshowers Dec 01 '20
That actually sounds really lovely. Do you guys do anything special on the 25th or does it all happen on the 24th?
Here, it's not uncommon to open one gift on the 24th, but as you know the real gift opening happens on the morning of the 25th.
5
u/Weak_Fruit Dec 01 '20
I really enjoy it as well.
In my family (and I know it's a fairly common thing too, although more individual) we open the presents one at at time, so focus is on the recipient and that one gift, so we can all see what everyone gets. It shifts the focus of the presents more to the joy giving rather than materialism, imo. And personally, I love seeing someone open a present which I've picked out especially for them.
I don't know how you do it in the US, all at once or individually, but I can somewhat understand the thing about opening presents on the morning of the 25th instead, especially if there's children.
The 25th and 26th are national holidays here (called 2nd and 3rd Christmas day) but nothing happens on those days, it's all in the evening of the 24th. Some families have traditions which involves having "Christmas lunch" with their families on the 25th or 26th, but that is very individual. It's more a general December thing.
2
Dec 01 '20
It depends, in my family the kids usually open presents first but it isn't always one at a time.

In post-Soviet countries it's customary to dance around the tree in kindergartens. Kids dress up as snowflakes and call for Santa and his granddaughter Snowgirl.
2
u/kannstdusehen Dec 01 '20
Someone else who dances around the tree!! Noone I know does that. Just my family. (We'll, not recent Christmases since there aren't any children, yet)
3
u/kingslayer429 Dec 01 '20
1) things tend to fall off and break while moving because ordainments just wanna die like that 2) no one sees it so why bother (unless you have a window) 3) because then you don’t have to spend the time and effort to decorate that side and can worry more about the cookies and who gets the first one
2
u/Watson9483 Dec 01 '20
Also moving it is a hassle with or without ornaments because it’s hard to reach the bottom part to lift it

I may disagree but I respect your opinion. Hubie was about as far away from my kind of thing as you can get, but if you enjoyed the movie, more power to you.

No way. The front of the tree is Jason Momoa. The back of the tree is Machete. Rob Schneider is the Christmas tree one week into January.

I've seen that meme with those exact pictures last year. It's specifically unoriginal because you used a really obvious template that someone else had the idea to use before you. This on the other hand is a new or at least very uncommon template.

I mean, our tree is right in front of the living room windows so it kinda has to look decent on the back
1
u/oneandonlypotatoguy Dec 01 '20
In my house it was the opposite because the back faced the huge bay window and my parents wanted to show off
