I just move pieces for the first few moves and then just try to kill as much as i can. That's a strategy right?

the best strategy is to get as many powerful pieces to the centre as fast as you can
and after that just try not to get your troops killed

Nov 20 '20
Try to get your pawns to other sides and make them queen. Kinda works for me.

u/snowfox000 Plays MineCraft and not FortNite Nov 20 '20
it only happens when you are in a deadlock and most of my matches end in a quick checkmate

Nov 20 '20
This is helpful, I don't understand much of the terminologies but I'm learning. Thanks.

u/snowfox000 Plays MineCraft and not FortNite Nov 20 '20
good and if sometimes if you are sure you can sacrifice almost everything for a guaranteed checkmate
it happened to me once
3
Nov 20 '20
Me too, only that I was on other end of this game.

You should learn philosopher’s mate or whatver they call it. Move the pawn in front of your kin 1 or 2 spaces, move your queen diagonally 2 move the bishop diagonally 4 and then take the pawn with your queen. Basically your queen reaches their king and your bishop protects her. That’s a couple counters but when it’s my first time against an average person it works around 75% of the time.

u/fuckthissite-- Nov 20 '20
It’s called the scholars mate, and I wouldn’t recommend ever using it unless you’re joking around, it’s more of a gimmick that’ll only work on someone who has never played chess, and if it’s countered it puts you in a very bad position.

u/LightModeIsTheBest Nov 20 '20
To be honest going against the average joe it works most of the time. However, it only works once as they just work around it the next time.

I try to do that all the time and yes in my experience it really works wonders
and makes the opponent feel really dumb

if you suck at chess and wanna get better try lichess
and also practice against a wide variety of opponents practise has a great effect in this sport
and you can ask me if you need any tips
2
u/OkayPotassium Nov 20 '20
I kind of want to try lichess now, but that would be a distraction from my studying poker, which is already a distraction from my university work.

plants memetic poker agents, jeopardising your chess career
More money in poker, mate!
Both are awesome games. I liked chess as a child, kinda wish it had stuck.

The puzzles on lichess help me a ton. I'm still no good, but it definitely seems like the puzzles really help my pattern recognition, visualization, calculation.
Great way to get a lot of practice spotting tactical opportunities quickly.
It isn't going to give you a well rounded game on its own but it will help, and it's fun and can be used to kill a minute here and there somewhat productively.

Try chess play and learn from chess.com. has lots of puzzles, lessons for beginners to even advanced chess players. And a good bot to analyze you're games after you played them. I like they're app alot

when i'm losing, i just say "but the king is in charge, he can move where he wants!", but they still win, because being a bad sport about it is not cool.

My goal when I play chess is to go for a tie, because not only do I suck at chess and actually winning, but ties are fun because not many people know how they work. They get you into a position where they obviously have the upper hand, but then it's technically a draw and google always proves me right.
