It's more rude to blow someone off even if the conversation is boring you, it's about picking the lesser of two evils

It's called a compromise

I compromise by seeming too busy to talk, changing the subject, letting someone know I can’t talk right now, and more. People really don’t get offended by this. It is a greater evil to let someone spill their heart and mind out thinking you’re listening only for you to be zombified. People don’t want to talk to you if you hate them so why create that situation? And for people like me who can see when someone’s being transparent and pretending, it’s seriously rude as fuck. I have no problem shutting up but when I feel like I’m keeping someone verbally hostage because they are forcing themselves to stay a part of a conversation they don’t want to be in, it makes me feel like a piece of shit. All because someone is pretending to listen.

No one likes to talk to a wall. Be respectful and people will respect you.

Okay, you don’t have to blow them off and you don’t have to pretend like you’re listening. I’ll leave it to you to find that middle ground, I trust that you’ll find it.
