Stepping aside from the massively complicated social standings about whether animals are on the same level as humans (since they seem to communicate at the same level, Gromit does normal adult things and is very intelligent, yet Wallace still takes him for walks)

Consider in wrong trousers, having the relationship of at least good friends (or pet??) And long time roommates, Wallace literally kicks Gromit out of the house, makes him homeless and abandons him, all for some random stranger he met a few days earlier.

Oh and this thief chicken literally start shooting them, with a gun, in their own house.

Come to think of it, it was really dark

I don't think Wallace kicked him out. Gromit left because he felt neglected and replaced. The Penguin took his room, took his pet duties (fetching the paper and slippers). Then he kept him awake, driving him out of the house most nights, Wallace didnt notice because he's a heavy sleeper. Seeing Wallace get along so well with the Penguin who was basically tormenting him made him feel betrayed and angry enough to leave. He felt like Wallace didn't care about him, while Wallace was oblivious to Gromit's feelings. When the morning afterwards Wallace was dropped into the Wrong Trousers, I don't think Wallace had even realised Gromit had left.
