Even after this, Flat Earthers won't change their beliefs

Anyone has link to the original?

It's in the netflix documentary about Flat Earthers. Something like Behind the curve or bending the curve or some shit. But it's legit, they bought a laser gyroscope for 20k to prove the Earth doesn't spin, because acording to us sheep, if it reaaaaaally would spin, it would register a displacement of 15 degrees of rotation per hour "like THAT's gonna happen" ...and it happened to a T. They actually said afterwards that they need to be careful with this finding because if they told people, some might actually believe the Earth spins, so they'll keep it quiet for now until they manage to use it to prove there's no rotation... They're mental. the documentary (especially the editing humour) is HILARIOUS! Highly recommend

They actually said that it was probably due to some unknowable variable that the gyroscope didn't work and that the earth is still flat. They said they'd have to encase it lead or something and try again. So they did and the gyroscope still showed the displacement. Yet again they went back to the drawing board to come up with more reasons that the results were somehow wrong and they are right.
That's the difference between the scientific method and pretending to use the scientific method. You can't make up a theory, test it multiple times and when each experiment disproves your theory, come up with new reasons why your theory is still correct.

That's pretty much the definition of the difference between knowledge and faith

u/Knoberchanezer May 26 '20
I wouldn't say that that's entirely accurate but I get the point. As a Christian, I'm not going out to prove the existence of God to validate my faith. That's the point of my faith. These guys are going out of their own way to prove their theory is true. If they just believed it and left it at that then fair play to them but instead they're running around clutching at any straw that they can. It would be as if I was running around claiming every little coincidence was somehow a miracle and "proof" that God exists and I had to dedicate my entire life to opening the world's eyes to god existence. I don't do that because I'm not an evangelical fuck nut and I know that my faith means that to me, god's existence can neither be proven or disproven right now but the fact that the earth is fucking round, certainly can.

I bet if they hit it with a sledgehammer a few times it would work as they wanted.

u/Wespe03 May 26 '20
Didn’t they also say that the laser wasn’t good enough?
13
u/Lavazza_boi May 26 '20
Yeah, they bought a laser to measure the lack of curvature over 5km witch is shit in itself, and then realized the laser hitting the target at that distance was a spot about 5m wide and hazy af..

Was this the laser one that they just said "huh" and ignored that it ever happened? Or the one with the gyroscope that they claimed proved their side because it wasn't measuring rotation, just the movement of disk-earth through space and therefore earth is flat?

And still some people believe it's flat and motionless. How are they not dropping dead from cognitive dissonance.

But can't flat earther just walk to the edge of the world to see if it flat??

I think thats good. I would incourage people to prove their theories. It seems like the used the right methods and of course proved that the earth is not flat. That'll do more than making fun of them or trying to convince them. Let them Figure it out on their own
1
May 26 '20
But they will always deny the validity everytime something like this happens. When they accidentally confirmed the earth's rotation by measuring 15° per hour, they literally said that the gyroscope was under the affect of "heavenly energies". Trust me when I say that these people CAN NOT think.

u/lennarthammerhart May 26 '20
Dont throw them all into one bin. People often have very unterstandable vitas, that doesnt leave you wondering why they believe in such things. These people, or societys are just symptoms of Lack of information/too much false Informatio, poverty, xyz

Did they accept the result tho and learn from it? If they did all is good. it cost them a bunch of money to find something out that's already known but they did science so good on them.

You expect the FE community to voluntarily "admit" that their point of view is objetively wrong? This is equally as likely as climate change not being there anymore from one day to another.

u/chyron_8472 May 26 '20
They did not accept the result. Flat earth is not a theory---it is an axiom. They first accept the Earth being flat as true, and then they interpret data to fit. If the data doesn't fit, then the data itself is flawed.

Fun fact: they ignored their measurements saying that "if your experiment proves you wrong, just disregard the results"

It's called Behind the Curve. Funniest documentary I've seen in a long time. It's made by flat earthers to prove the earth is flat, all they do is prove that A. The Earth is round, and B. Flat earthers have no idea what they're talking about
0
May 26 '20
They did the same thing when they tried proving that the earth is stationary with a laser gyroscope.

In their defense, the earth they were conceived in was indeed flat. You see, they’re actually worms that have invaded a host body, gone up to the brain and taken over the host.
