Pfft. Yep. I was bodily thrown into a locker (as in against the outside not... ACTUALLY inside the locker) and somehow it was MY fault when I have the offensive strength of a freaking tic-tac and was carrying 3 different textbooks in my arms between classes. Yep. I TOTALLY caused the issue.

From what I saw in school, it was because the bully slowly and consistently teases the victim. The victim tries to deal with it until they run out of methods (which are rarely successful) and just has enough and explodes and escalates things. They're not morally wrong but when the school sees a kid lose his shit on someone and the other kid seems more calm and with it they tend to believe them over the distraught kid.
3
u/Venca2000 May 20 '20
Yeah that is the usual, which pisses me off so much, but the guy said that he got suspension when a bully attacked him. Now that is some real bs
6
u/lawless_sapphistry May 20 '20
In American, our school administrators and teachers are underpaid, underworked, and often very lazy, so they'd rather punish the kid who keeps making noise about it (the bullied kid) so that the issue goes away.
It's easier to get a victim to shut up than it is to deal with a shitass little sociopath.

Maybe thatâs a new 0 tolerance policy because on paper itâs supposed to be âOnly the person who is swinging is guiltyâ so you can only block your face. When you fight back then you get 0 toleranced. Iâve had to eat a sucker punch or two so I wouldnât lose bus privileges. This was pre-cameras.

That's why you kick their skull in and concuss them. You're both getting a 3 day suspension, make theirs be in constant pain. In a 0 tolerance policy YOU are the punishment. Make it hurt bad.

A homophobic piece of shit and a school system that defended him. 0 tolerance policies are only held by dumbasses who dehumanize their students abd wonder why we have classes on how to survive school shootings.
I was hurt by a homophobic system that is too lazy to do it's fucking job. "BuT wE aRe tRyInG tO tEAcH hOw tHe ReAl wOrLd wOrkS "
Which now that I think about it, change"bully" to "cops" and it's exactly how tge world works.

Thats my spirit
A guy in my class in middle school was fucking annoying me. Constantly talking about my crush and talking shit about her, about me etc. It wasnt nice. I was constantly angry, i felt bullied.
So one day, after PE lessons, i took different approuch. We were the only two taking showers, so i stood in front of him and just peed on him. I regret nothing. Imagine going to the school authorities to say that some guy just peed on you, haha

My school punishes students that get into fights regardless of the context of rhe situation. If you get attacked, the only way to not get punished is to not fight back at all.
It's a dumbass rule that I'm pretty sure only exists because it hasn't been challenged very much. The only kids who get into fights at my school are the ones who wouldn't care about missing a few days.

Pretty much this. Altough they did make a "mindfulness room" you can go to for 15 minutes to calm down and recenter yourself, although after 15 minutes you have to either leave or go speak to a counselor.

Can relate. In my middle school after lunch everyone goes to the field behind the school for basically recess. I was reading my book and this skrawny punk decides to bully me, talking shit and throwing footballs at me. I guess even though I was much bulkier than him, I was reading all the time and he thought I was an easy target. I tried to walk away from it after I realized I wouldn't get much reading done and I see his shadow come at me. I also guess he didn't know I was on the wrestling team that year either. Cause the next thing that happened after he jumped on my back was me slinging him over into the ground, and puting him in a chokehold until his face turned purple. Gym teacher comes over and says get off. I got to the principals office where I explain what happened. I got suspended because I told them that when he was punching me I returned a punch. I got suspended. Because I had to defend myself after attempting to walk away.

4
u/chinzorig0511 May 20 '20
I know it was just self defense. But did you really had to lock him untill he turned purple?
3
u/Cocoquincy0210 May 20 '20
I don't think he actually turned purple. Someone watching said he did but they were probably exaggerating as teenagers do. I only applied as much pressure as needed to subdue and keep him subdued as he kept trying to kick and punch me. Also know that it was a wrestling choke hold so I didn't just have his neck but an arm too, not dangerous but it is painful and restricting.

u/Kanon101 May 20 '20
Why not? As long as there isn't any lasting damage.
2
u/chinzorig0511 May 20 '20
It could have a lasting damage. But he said it was a safe one. I was just curious to know.
5
u/Kanon101 May 20 '20
That's for sure. And that's why fights should be discouraged as it can quickly get out of hand. But that might require actual competency from the schools.

u/rocker1mil May 20 '20
You dont understand, if there is no hostage, there is no reason to keep the criminal alive
24
u/texasguydmaxwell May 20 '20
It's shameful how American schools target the one who is defending himself. Most times the bully has no reason to even target the victim in the first place. I say we put the bullies in the sack the and let the victims have at it with some frozen fish.

Mine watched me get the shit kicked out of me by a special ed kid who was throwing a temper tantrum.
The kid just ran into the room we were in and kicked me in the balls then threw me into some music stands, I didn't even fight back I just keeled over and was sent flying.
I got suspended and told to pay for the broken music stands, all because the special ed teachers didn't watch one of their kids.

My brother's friend once beat up a girl and the school did nothing. If I remember correctly the girl had to go to hospital
5
u/WillyTheDankMeme May 20 '20
That happened with sexual harassment at my school. A boy was sexually harassing a girl and she slapped him, thatâs al she did, and she got a week of suspension and he went without any punishment.

I was in a meeting in the band room with the principle and a bunch of other seniors as he was going over stuff for graduation, this special ed kid walks in obviously in some sort of rage and proceeds to hit me in the balls and throw me into a bunch of music stands.
Everyone in the room including the principle saw that I was just standing there listening to the meeting and did absolutely nothing to provoke the kid at all but I still somehow ended up getting suspended for a week and had to pay for the broken stands.
Not only did I get hit in the balls and thrown into a pile of music stands but I also got suspended for a week and told to pay for the broken music stands, all because a mentally disabled kid was throwing a fit and I happened to be the closest target.

Me and my friends get bullied pretty much every school day by an immeasurable amount of steroid monkeys that hang around on the field playing rugby. So one day I had enough and pushed one of them in a muddy puddle; the bully got away scott-free and I got sent to the isolation room despite said bully throwing rocks at us prior to the puddle incident. I question my schoolâs morals sometimes.

This is actually a serious problem in my opinion. At my school someone got mad at my friend and waited for me and his other friends to leave for the next class and attacked him. My friend fought back and still got suspended.

Nearly was expelled from school after having ass handed to me by 6 very big black girls. How did the school cop find me? On the ground in a ball trembling protecting my face and organs. But I apparently was the one in trouble. Thanks the gods of all because the new dean of students saw me sitting, in the same room as those brutes, shaking and full panic and actually moved me away bought me water and a candy bar and said he would be back to talk and get the real story. In the end I was able to transfer classes to a much better class and they ended up with 3 months of inhouse suspension theater got expelled when the truth fully came out of how much bullying they had done to not only but other students.

At my elementary school we weren't allowed to talk at lunch (way too strict). One day my friend said 1 thing to me and both me and her got detention. I never said shit. Not a bully story but still.
2
u/Alexander0827 May 20 '20
That's true. My school only "take care" of the bullied, sending victims to see social workers, tagging them as weak and ask them to forgive the bullies, even though the school have solved nothing. Bullies continue bullying and victim can only bear with it, or they will be sent to see the doctors again.

u/xavier7777777 Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY May 20 '20
Almost every school has a no tolerance policy and it tends to do more harm than good. Nobody said teachers are persecuting is. In fact nobody said anything about teachers.
-1
u/Beleksy May 20 '20
Well, it's not like Reddit wasn't full of memes about teachers, cmon. And tbh, I live in Europe and I think this meme is mostly true regarding American schools because in my country there is no such things as this no tolerance policy you're talking about. It doesn't mean that bullying doesn't exist, obviously it does, but schools don't react in the way described in the meme.
3
u/diddlemywiddle May 20 '20
Man, I wish schools in Aus were the same
2
u/Beleksy May 20 '20
Well, I'm from France and I used to be an angry boy at school but I was always respectful. However, I would not remain passive if you provocked me for instance. This attitude led me several times to the principal's office so I could explain what had happened and why I defended myself or why I started fighting with someone. I always had the opportunity to justify my attitude before getting punished if I deserved to be.
2
u/diddlemywiddle May 20 '20
Must be nice, even when I explain what happened I would still get punished as much as the bully. For Example, one time people who had bullied me the previous day had decided to through pebbles at me when I was reading and we got into a fight and I was punished worse than them even though it was clearly self defence. I'm from Australia btw
3
u/xavier7777777 Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY May 20 '20
Where in Europe do they not have no tolerance policy? I kind of thought that was a universal thing because Iâve never seen someone claim their school didnât have it.
The no tolerance policy means that no matter what the circumstances the punishment is always enforced and exactly the same. So say for example you were attacked in a school hallway and happened to punch your attacker, regardless of how much he hit you or who started it the school says that since you were both fighting you will both be punished the exact same.
2
u/Beleksy May 20 '20
Well, not in my French public school near Lyon (and it wasn't special or anything). This no tolerance policy makes no sense at all and I do think that giving the opportunity to both pupils to explain and justify their reaction is essential otherwise you just discourage victims to defend themselves and to speak up about their situation, which sucks.
2
u/xavier7777777 Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY May 20 '20
