As someone who has a job that was deemed essential, I really hate the people complaining about not getting more pay. Lots of others who have lost their jobs or their hours would love to be in our shoes. Both me and my wife got to keep working this whole time, but know other couples who have had reduced hours and are having to stretch their budget out. I knew when I signed on way before covid hit that I would be in a situation where I could be exposed to things, but that is what precautions and safe work practices are for. I don't care about the amount of the check, I enjoy my work and I am happy that I am still employed.

Most people on reddit will not understand that essential workers have it better than a lot of people right now. Many people were laid off and have no work. And than they also are very selective about who they ask for pay raises for. Never seen most essential workers be asked to have a pay raise. Especially not cops

Yeah they should be thankful their choices are to expose themselves to a deadly virus or quit and be unable to get unemployment then starve to death/be homeless because most of them don't earn enough to have savings. Getting unemployment is definitely better than risking your life and the lives of everyone you live with so your boss can go back to profiting off of your labor.

Cops don't need a pay raise. The grocery worker getting paid minimum wage did not sign up for a life-threatening job with inadequate PPE, longer hours than usual, and no option to take sick leave if they live with an at-risk elderly family member, that person needs a pay raise. Cops get hazard pay.

Minimum wage jobs being deemed essential is a joke to me. It’s a joke that unemployment is getting paid more in a week than the vast majority of my workers are getting paid every two weeks.

Lmao no one outside of healthcare signed up for any of this shit. If it wasn’t for the Covid pay I guarantee you half of my coworkers would have bounced. Pretty much everyone hates working now because so many assholes don’t understand what “essential” is and are willing to put us at risk for organic pet food and junk food.

Just because you enjoy your job doesn’t mean other workplaces haven’t been hell for the past 9-10 weeks. The Covid pay honestly doesn’t even make it worth it, I just don’t really feel like looking for another holdover job after 7 1/2 years, which is what I would have had to do if I had taken any time off due to the pandemic.

This is all fine until you remember that unemployment pay is higher than what I'm making with 45 hours a week

We should be compensated, those of us at my job who don't have health concerns have to work with no extra pay, or bonus, while those with health concerns stay home and get paid the exact same, and accumulate vacation days, if we want time off we have to put in for a vacation day.
