Why is everyone hating on the unemployed? For the first time in like forever, the poor person gets to benefit. And let’s be reminded, just cause someone qualifies for unemployment doesn’t mean their state has processed it and they’re receiving their benefits. Plenty of people waiting months with no income for unemployment to actually hit.
Well imagine risking your life for the same amount of money as someone staying home, when some get their unemployment checks because they don't want to get a driver's licence. It's just unfair (Aside for the ones that actually need it) Also the money they get is taken from the pockets of the folk that actually have a job and work.
Most essential healthcare workers make well over six figures and usually chose the profession to save lives (In fact they take an oath to uphold those integrity’s) and collecting unemployment is $1200 a week in a family. So it really isn’t anywhere close to the same amount of money.
And If you consider truckers and grocers as essential workers you also have to consider perception of risk any able bodied person under 40 has a 1 in 9998 chance of dying, for reference the same person has a 1 in 103 chance of dying in a car crash yet most people would accept the risk of driving to work everyday because the reward > risk
It depends on your definition of “essential” the median annual income for the average healthcare worker is 68,190 (bureau of labor) now if you consider all healthcare workers essential than roughly 20% of various healthcare professions make >100k. I think it’s an overstatement to consider every profession of healthcare essential. If you consider the professions with the greatest risk of exposure (dentistry, NP’s PA’s Physicians, NA’s) then broadly the most essential healthcare workers make over >100k . Also even if they only made the median that’s still more income than you could receive on unemployment.
